yes, the rewards are like currency; once spent, those reward points are gone. and yes, you can buy someone else a free copy with your points. and yes, if you bought two free copies using six rewards, you'd need 10 more to have them both as lifetime upgrades. each license is for a unique copy of the program, so a lifetime award ONLY applies to one copy. at least, based on the available information, that's the way it reads now. that vlad might alter this or clarify it, why, ok. but that's how i read it currently based on available information.

A second confirmation. Excellentastic!

Seems like there should be a detailed section about the exact workings of the Reward Program in the FAQ. I had gleaned a completely different interpretation from the info on the reward program webpage!!!

Yeah...I (obviously) read it differently as well, so since the rewards are a big part of this program, it might be worth making sure they are crystal clear.

My only worry now is what will happen when I get a new computer and retire my old one...I would hope that I could install FF on it. Because as it looks now, it looks like I could lose that...and if so, a lifetime update would be a bit of a gag smile;)

rawn, you are a registered user, right? so, all you'd need to do to migrate to another system would be to download the program again and simply enter your cd key on it. you might have to email FF or something to let them know the old system went kaplunk, but i dont think it would be a problem. as far as i know, and dont say this too loudly, FF isnt hardware registered. it's only a cd key that makes it work. so, when you get your permanent, lifetime or whatever copy, you get a cd key that works with that version. i may well be wrong on this, and i hope FF responds here to verify or deny this, but i think that's how it works.

Yep...I am registered, and I assumed that would be how it works.
But i don't wanna trust assumptions smile;)

(mind you my new comp was put off yet again as car repairs popped up to take that money...grrr)

I assume those who earned their full license as a beta reward will be able to go straight to a life-long upgrade license by spending 5 reward points? Has anyone done this already?

Yeah, me too! Sort of. smile;)

I started the "Extending the Reward Program" thread precisely for the reason that I need at least 2 life-long licenses (for my two computers). Strange that Vlad didn't comment on any of my flawed assumptions about how rewards are accumulated and spent. smile:|

* 5 filters = free lifetime upgrades to all future versions

I'm also wondering whether this is per copy or for all licenses purchased. smile;) smile:D

* 4 filters = 10 coupons for a 10% discount for your friends

If all ten coupons were spent by one friend to get a 100% discount, why not buy him a free version for 3 rewards in the first place? smile;)

yeah, i didnt understand that last one either. just get one free for yourself and send your friend a copy, or just the cd key. seemed odd.

and bear in mind that i may have it ALL wrong. the ONLY OFFICIAL stuff is on that one web page. so, go with that over ANYTHING i may say.

you'll have to talk to volde about this one. he's the only one close. but, maybe we could pool all of ours??

ummm, i'll pass on this one. it would mostly likely run as poorly as windows at this point smile;)

I had always read the reward system differently and thought that at 3 HUs we get the free version and once we had a total of 5 HUs we get the lifetime upgrades. Now I see that I need an additional 5 for this. Top it off my filters seem to have reached a ceiling now for over a month. The highest they can go is three pages away from the HU district. I see other filters make incredible leaps from 30 pages away right into the HUs and mine for over a month just hover around just a few pages away. smile:| smile:?:

Well...the "page 10" method of checking if you are near HU status is inaccurate at best. But I found it a nice guage.
I have had filters sit around that mark and then dissappear many times. Though I do agree, there was a sudden jump in other filters (many of which I dont remember seeing before).
But thats what happens with this type of system. Maybe a new shop found out about this program and they use a specific type of filter, so then suddenly those would get a boost.
So even though some good ones may get pushed back because of it, I still think it is the most fair system.

HU is now up to page 12. The slimy walls and that blocky filter are the markers.

I had one filter jump from page like 30 or so, to page 8, somewhere within 2 weeks time, with no stops inbetween that I saw. That was the only low usage filter (of mine at least) ever to move up. For the most part, I'd have to agree with Rawn's take on that kind of situation, that and the fact that voluntary randomly timed user stats are not telling the whole story, and certainly not in anywhere near real-time.

----Ya'll do realize that a Mac version would expand their paying userbase by probably double (despite the smaller number of Mac users in general) ? Plus make that many more of your filters go HU. smile:p

wouldnt doubling the user base also double the filter makers? and wouldnt that double the number of filters available and then halve your chances of an HU? smile;)

----Not really. How many people in the long run, or even right now, do you think make filters compared to those who just use them ? I'm thinking 200 to 1 or more eventually, maybe only 20 to 1 now, but still. So taking that random estimate ha-ha, for every 19 people using your filters, you have one more making some filters and "competing" for usage stats with you. Put in any number you want, and it still works in your favor unless there are more filter makers than users, and we are waaayyyy past even that first tiny stepping stone point I'm sure. smile:D

i've really no idea what the ratio is, jffe. you may well be right. would be interesting to know what that ratio is. i dont think we have a poll option in this forum, do we? oh well.

yeah, you could well be right, especially with the advent of the basic FF, which doesnt even allow for filter making. good point smile:)

I used to think that not too long ago.....but by the way so many filters are getting used, I have to think that users vastly outnumber authors.....
