Open up your FF program. The button is in the upper right, next to the Filter Editor button. It says "Download more filters".(I'm sure you're not stupid.)

Hi Donna,
thanks a lot! I tried to download directly from the filterforge homepage ![]() Now I tried it from the programm, but it says no connection to the filter library - make sure you have connection to the internet. I am logged on to the ff-forum on the other hand on the same machine. Maybe there a problem with the firewall or something ?? Have the same problem with submitting filters. Any ideas ? Thanks! regards, rilos |

Hi Rilos,
Have you tried it with just the FF program open without being logged onto the web site? I suppose it could be your firewall or anti-virus program. The only way to find that out would be to shut them off and try again. (Don't forget to turn them back on afterwards!) Good luck, Donna |

Donna, logging in is not necessary -- everyone can download filters. |

I know...Rilos had said that he was logged in and 'still' couldn't download the filters. I was trying to tell him that he didn't need to be logged in or even have the web site open at the same time.
Sorry if I confused anyone. ![]()

When submitting filters, check for an ! mark next to one of the plugins. I had the no connection and found that to be the case.

@Firemup: its not that the filter isnt correct (no exclamation mark etc.) but I cant connect to the filter library due to connection problems.
@Vlad: now I tried the connection from home (I use zonealarm there and changed the settings so that it allows ff to connect to the web. Now I get a different error message: "Initial data download failed. Reason: 'is_filter_labrary_online() failed.'" So I think its nearly the same - the programm (standalone ff) cant connect itself to the library. Maybe try to hand it over to the experts ... ![]() Thanks, Rilo regards, rilos |

rilos, it looks like Filter Forge still has no connection to the Internet. It connects to filterforge.net using TCP port 443 (HTTPS), and it may also use the DNS port (53 TCP) to resolve 'filterforge.net'. Please check your firewall settings to ensure that these ports are enabled.
It's a strange situation anyway because I've tried Filter Forge with ZoneAlarm and it worked well. It asks me to approve the Filter Forge connection to the Internet only once. It seems that you have custom firewall settings or maybe a different version of Zone Alarm. |

@Top: Thanks for the information.
In the office I cannot change the global firewall settings. Normally port 8080 is generally open for WWW access. I cannot give access via special ports. Why dont you offer normal down- and upload via the internet-site, like it normally works (and the download of ff-programm) ? That would be much easier for me (and probably many others). Will try to set the right parameters for zonealarm at my home-access. Didn't know yet of the special ports you use and the ff.net-connection. regards, rilos |

Well, we use the default HTTPS port (the same you use when you connect to secure sites), so this normally should not be the problem. On the other hand, your proxy may not support the HTTPS forwarding (CONNECT mode) or the autodetection feature does not work properly. Try the following: Run Filter Forge, go to menu, Tools->Options..., select "Filter Library" tab, check the "Use proxy" under "Connection settings" group and enter your proxy and port manually.

@onyXMaster: tried that already, with the ports I know (8080), and your port (as top mentioned) but nothing works. I get the same error message.
Now I tried to deaktivate my popup-blocker, but that makes no difference. Isnt there a way to up- and download directly via the web-site ? regards, rilos |

Please try to open the following URL in your browser:
https://filterforge.net/ If it asks if you want to establish a secure connection with a site you do not trust, say "Yes", it won't harm your security. Please report here what it displayed in your browser and include the browser make and version. |

I am also behind a firewall.
My company proxies port 8080. I can connect to that https fileforge site fine, but I cannot download filters via FF. I have tried just about everything. With this application being geared for professionals, you should probably expect no more than very basic internet access in filter submissions and downloads. I have a few filters i'm considering uploading, but I know there's no way with my proxy issues. |
