I'm not a programmer but IIRC Cocoa has been around as long as OS-X, and shouldn't be a surprise to developers at this point (??). It may be that everyone ignored Cocoa and all it involves for as long as possible

Yes, Cocoa is not a surprise for us, but there's no way we're porting FF on it, unless Apple completely disables Carbon on their 32-bit systems. Too much work, and no benefit at all.
Actually, now that the Mac version is online, all these Mac-specific things aren't a concern for us anymore, barring the above-mentioned Carbon catastrophe. |

I would also like to note, that around August 2006, Apple was telling everyone that 64-bit Carbon is being developed , but in June 2007 they told us (the world) that 64-bit Carbon is not going to happen.
While I'm not going to discuss the development schedules, partial Mac porting and crossplatform code was already done at that point using Carbon, and I can surely say that those news were a very unpleasant surprise. |
