For those who are so inclined,

"Today is an important day in the 23 year history of trueSpace. We are releasing a major upgrade to our flagship product with trueSpace7.6, bringing significant improvements in modeling, animation, rendering and workflows, plus new direct export to Virtual Earth. Most of these you might already expect if you've been following my regular Captain's Blog posts at http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace....php?t=893.

What you may not expect is that we are making trueSpace7.6 available to everyone at no charge, in a giant step forward to bring high-end 3D authoring tools to all who want them!"

You need to register to access the download. But this is worth it, not a trial.
The last time i checked the price on this I thought it was too expensive, but I still salivated over what it appeared to be able to do.
Heck at this price you cant beat it!

hi infini,

you and CF posted about the same time on this smile:) i'm currently downloading the files, the program, the pdf and the videos. you can see my other post in CF's offtopic thread.

as i mentioned in CF's post, the only thing i dont quite understand is the limited export file types. i dont see any of the more standard file types mentioned. so, the program seems a bit limited in that regard.

still, a freebie is a freebie and it looks to have some great features.

so, thanks for letting us know! smile:)

edit: ah, ok. i found the rest of the export file types... never mind smile:)

Cool, someone mentioned this in Second life too. I got as far as opening the web page and bookmarking it and that was all. smile;) I always wonder what the catch is when they start giving away software for free.
Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

Seems to be no catch to it so far....To me a bit to figure out where all the fimilar tools are since I never really used True Space...But maybe they are just following in the tradition of other developers...I still have Bryce and Poser that I got for free..I still use those also..With no catch to them at all......

Well there is a catch and a strategic plot in the works. After doing some reading in the truspace forums I found out that Microsoft has bought out truspace and is offering it for free
so users will be attracted to using it to create content for virtual earth which there is a handy export option for.
This is to counter the Google/Sketchup combo. At least this is what the general consensus over there is. Some of the people over there were pretty ticked that they paid between 6 -700 for the program and now its free.
As a consumer I def like the trend of large tech companies getting into contests of giving away free stuff in their attempts at global market domination.

I'd be pretty ticked if I had paided 6 or 700.00 for this and now its free..I wonder if those people wrote for a refund on the product...

Well as seen in the past some companies were giving away free previous versions of software in attempts for people to buy the upgrades or to get them hooked and buy the newer versions of the programs...Thats been going on since the late 90s...A lot of graphic magazines were offering the software for free through the companies....
But you could also download them from the companies sites...
From Painter3 to Bryce2....Many different 3d packages from Strata Studio to Maxons Cinema4d....

But I will agree with you infiniview its great to see this still continue to this day....
