Some time ago, I suggested that the reward program could be extended beyond the 5th reward, and I'm wondering what the position of the FF team is on this topic, and of course everyone else's too. Would it be desireable to extend it? Is there a plan in the works?

One thing I'm going to point out is the following: Since a single license is bound to a client/seat/machine, and artists do tend to move between machines (say: studio & home, for example), there would at least be 'some' reasonable room for extension... smile;) smile;) smile;) smile:D

Wow, how many computers do you have, mate??? smile;) smile:D LOL....

Yeah, I think it's a great idea because I'm always going between computers.....so it would be nice to have it on multiple machines.....and oh, I was thinking that it would be nice to have on my laptop when flying.....

I also like the idea of a reward level giving authors editorial power over their filter's comment strings and the proposed filter galleries.....

A single lisense is bound to a single machine?

I use FF both at work and at home, and my free demo is soon to run out smile:cry: ...so i have to look into getting a lisense, and really would hate to have to get two (or 3 since we should be getting a new comp at home in the near future as well)

That's the problem with seat/machine bound licenses: They don't move with the artist, unless he installs them on a laptop.

I'd say: Give out an additional license for every 5 rewards after the 5th. This way it would be:

5th Reward: 1st License with life-long upgrades.
10th Reward: 2nd License with life-long upgrades.
15th Reward: 3rd License with life-long upgrades.
etc...

The benefit of this policy would be that it keeps established authors in the game, rewarding them for their continued efforts. Note that each additional full lifetime license would need as many rewards as the first [which has the nice side-benefit that it would discourage the creation of sock-puppet accounts to 'game' the system].

Rawn, try requesting another time extension from FF.....because I'm quite sure they see that all you need is just a little more time to get the free copy.....and would not want to loose your ongoing contributions..... smile:) smile:) smile:)

+2 Makes sense.....just extends multiples of the existing lifetime upgrades reward.....

Exactly!!! .....which also adds incentive to submit their best works and not hold back anything.....

I have 2 computers myself, and currently I have FF installed on my laptop, which is old and out of date and soon to die, even if they can't give us more licenses could FF make it so that you could install FF on multiple machines, but require a CD; that way we would only have 1 license but could still use FF at multple locations.

Redcap, good idea.....something along the lines of what AutoDesk does with AutoCad.....which seems to be a very secure method of doing it.....

I am just going to go out on a limb here and say if FF did make a CD system, everyone who has won their free copy of FF would be more than happy to pay shipping and handling, and a little extra for the production of said CD.

Absolutely yes. I've been thinking about it from day one. I was just unable to come up with a good reward schedule.

I have this on my list, but no specifics yet.

It's possible that we change this to a floating license similar to that of Modo, with the same approach regarding the Mac/PC platform .

I never did get a reply back it that is okay or not --I still wonder on that one

Where did you ask, on the forums or via the contact form? We can't guarantee that we reply all questions here on the forums, so such questions are best directed to the contact form.

My appologies If I came accross wrong in no way was I trying to imply you guys were not vigilant To be quite frank I just hadnt considered that option.

I will of course submit an inquiry tommorow then since I dont want to in any way violate your license

http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...essage9082 is the post I was reffereing to
I assume from this part
[QUOTE]copy of the specified major version of the Product by one user account in the operating system [QUOTE]

from that section since its not stating per processor or per machine but in fact per operating system --that in fact technically Im not in violation but as I posted there
letter of law
and
spirit of law
dont allways coincide
I want to make sure Im living up to the spirit of your license as well
that was my main concern
FF and its team have been good to all of us and I in now way want to take advantage of them
legally or otherwise

personally I think it would be great if it could be ported as a portable app and wouldnt violate license since I allready have the gimp and image magic on my thumbdrive
but that might lead to easy pirating of this software

I do have one additionaly question Im curently not pleased with my parallels install compared to the performance of my Xen machines I might be considering switching VM's hope this dosnt violate anything either

I was recently surprised though when I was sick I had my linux box on in the other room and so connected using my nxserver and fired up the VM and ran it through nxserver --it was amazeingly still agile with nxserver

I assumed that the heavy render process and the fact that it was in a vm would cause the screen refresh to lag horribly on my nxclient surprise surprise it worked great

I know my opinion doesnt count for much (and i would not expect it to sway any business decisions for a company who is supposed to make money), But i would love to have the lisensing modified.
I finally have a full copy of the program, and my demo runs out in a week.....But I use this on both my work and home machines (as I often take work home)...so now i am only able to use it on one of the machines.
Since I tend to do most of my filter creating on my work machine, it will greatly limit any new filters I can make.
But what can ya do, at least i have one copy.
Maybe I can hope I get three more high usages so i can get a second lisense LOL

Hey Rawn, I think that's exactly the incentive FF wants to promote smile:) I think if you keep going the way that you are, you will get everything that you want smile:)
