Having just seen the jump in downloads lately (apparently due to warez folks), I thought I would check on the popularity of some of my filters...and i was pleasantly surprised to see i actually have one that has reached "high" status
So i thought i would check out the sort by popularity option to see where the others are standing......and thought I would share my findings.
Apparently if you get up to page 10 in the popularity listing, then your filter is on the borderline of becoming popular. Although I did notice that the number of downloads is by no means any indicator of popularity. I saw one on page 10 that had over 400 downloads and was still average
Weird huh?

I doubt many if any warez users are going click o.k. when FF asks if it can send usage stats home, I just don't see them being quite that dumb. If a filter has a lot of different/interesting presets, it's just going to get used more, also, if it is just very useful, even in a vanilla kind of way it probably has a better chance of getting popular than some intricate fancy artsy filter. I've seen easily 50-100 filters that I would've given an "award" to, and they were all average usage, because they were a little left of center, and will take much longer to get enough use to reach high usage status.

rawn,
check out northernshadow's filters. i think she has 17 total... nine (!) of them have won an award. now, that's quite a percentage rating! hers are mostly art filters. there are a LOT of photo artists around and they love good art filters (myself included)!
and yes, the number of downloads of a filter has almost nothing to do with earning an award. so, all the recent (warez) downloads have really no effect on the ratings and rightfully so. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Congratulations! It is funny but I had a notion that that particular filter would get HU. It seems that fabric filters are in.

----Let's not go into detail. Warez just means cracked software. They are all around online. It is not any one person, or any one place. Some people who post on these forums, will someday, be warez users asking for help/advice. I've seen it on audio/video forums. It's not for us to worry about, except to mention to people how they can earn a free copy of FF and get it right here the legit way.

Funny - I thought they were a big Hollywood industrial graphics powerhouse that had done a deal with FF. I thought they were a good thing and going to drive my filter usage up. I'm trying to imagine a way I could have been more wrong but offhand I can't think of one. @ronviers

----Yikes, yeah, you win the "naive person of the day award", but more power to ya for not even knowing what it meant really, I wish I could say the same in a way.
