Hi Everyone,
My web site offers free background tiles for beginning web masters to use on their personal web sites. I made a filter here called 'Geometry',(which I have not been able to submit because of a full queue)that I have used to make background tiles. I am getting e-mails from people who want more!! I added 50 tiles to my site...go here to see them (click on Tiles and run your mouse over the thumbnails to see them tiled; scroll down to click on the next page, there are 5 pages):

Geometric patterns on the background tend to "conflict" with the page text, so I'd recommend to use non-regular, non-geometric stuff for backgrounds, so that it doesn't visually clash with on-page text and tables.

Yes, but most web designers know many ways to use 'busy' backgrounds without making the text illegible.
