Hello,
First, let me say that I'm not using FilterForge very often lately (but every now and then, I do). If I did, I'd probably be a bit more forgiving regarding the topic and even so I can see that it's overall very reasonably priced and a great piece of software.
But I keep getting those emails that try to upsell me to the Studio version. No problem in and on itself, I like to be informed about new releases.
What's bugging me is that it seems like new features that should logically be in the professional version are now exclusive to the Studio version, circumventing the lifetime upgrade I purchased. Basically, the agreement that was made might be honored on paper, but certainly not in spirit.
I understand the need for new revenue, I understand there could be much worse versions of this, like going out of business or discontinuing the current FilterForge and making a new one, if only in name, but it's still bugging me.
When I saw that project files are limited to Studio, I found it kind of funny, but at least I could see how there's a logical connection, there. Generally, I'd understand a Studio version as one with a floating license, a specific number of seats etc.
But animation features? That's 100% something that should have been completely available in the normal version.

Agreed: A customer who purchased a Filterforge Pro lifetime license = a customer who is already all in. (fully supporting FF financial ambitions)
I spent a decent amount on the Pro version -> then after many FilterForge emails to upgrade, I did another sizable purchase for the Pro lifetime upgrade.
Below shows part of an email sent from FilterForge titled "New Filter Forge 10 Beta Introduces Studio Edition Studio" - dated Sept 21, 2020:
------------------------------
The latest Filter Forge 10 beta update introduces a new top program edition called Filter Forge Studio Edition. Besides all functionality of FilterForge Professional, it enables Filter Forge Projects — platform-independent files that contain one or more filters, settings and source images – and also allows you to use a single license on two computers.
------------------------------
I didn't need 2 machines and project exports so I didn't need the Studio version but this option makes sense for some.
Bottom line:
Before the "Studio lifetime" version existed... "Pro lifetime" users got all the new features - they should this honor this.
Generate new income from crossgrades and new customers not loyal existing Pro Lifetime customers.

I have to agree. I have FF9 Pro and while I think Filter Forge is a great program I simply don't use it frequently enough in my everyday workflow. And two main additional reasons I haven't upgraded is because I was waiting for the very two Studio features listed here: animation capabilities and ability to use on two computers platforms, which nearly every major software offers. But now I just learned these features are only available in a higher tier license. If I had succumbed to the marketing offers for Lifetime Pro I too would be extremely displeased. As it is, I am only mildly displeased...

I feel like I’ve been had. I’ve been using Filter Forge since version 1.0 and buying almost every update since. I too invested in the Lifetime Pro update in 2020 thinking I was finally done with paying to upgrade. Now if I want animation capability I have to pay as though I have never used the app once. Talk about bait and switch. I’ve been a huge advocate for FF over the years. It is very difficult to advocate such a lousy upgrade structure on this awesome product. Correction/update: I've been given an upgrade option in par with the money spent on the Pro version. Thank you FF!

Hi SteveO, are you allowed to / willing to share the specifics of this deal? I've cancelled the newsletter in the meantime, but last prices I saw were still around $200 to switch from Livetime Professional to Livetime Studio.

That is the option I was given. I am comparing this upgrade price to the full price: $434 today (06-20-22) marked down from $818 or as claimed in the option email sent me, $538 for full LT Studio.
