I have seen the awesome and interesting news of the new Animation features of FF 11 STUDIO edition.

Although I have read all the text added I really do not know how It works yet.

QUESTION 1
Please, I want to ask if this really has the ability to animate some compatible of the available filters in the library by adding the new animation components to the filter?

I mean if you can modify a previous filter and add animation to the presets that you already you may have?

I do not mean to add additional Animation Effects as for examples the falling snow in the example

QUESTION 2
Can you make an animation between two selected presets of the filter?
I mean that the animation starts in the first preset values and end on the second selected preset

Sorry that I still do not know how the new animation works as I only have the F11 Profesional version. When I have time I may try to use the trial of Studio version.

https://www.filterforge.com/features/ Go to where it puts New in Filter Forge 11.0

Procedural Animation in FF 11

EXAMPLE OF WHAT I ASK

EXAMPLE 1

For example I want to know if you can animate the distortion values of this filter that is for FF 7. So the animation would start and show the default FF Lifesaver source image without any distortion and then progressively would begin the distortion until you reach the preset shown here below

Or Begin fr om an already distorted value and go to another value

Dragon Distort II By Wolfgang Halder

EXAMPLE 2

Can this Paper marble texture be animated and show it moving ?

Paper Marble 1 By Stefan Beckmann

EXAMPLE 3

Can you make an animation that would show animated each one of the loop iterations? I mean for example to show each of the spirals when it is being created and added, and not only the end result.

Glowing Spiral By Kochubey

EXAMPLE 4

Could be done an animation wh ere the blocks created by this filter are moving ?

SuperCastleBlocks By Orestes

EXAMPLE 4

Can you animate these mercury drops and show them as if they were really falling and moving?

Mercury falling By Sjeiti

EXAMPLE 5

Would be possible to animate these bubbles and show them moving ?

Bubbling By Carl

Thanks very much for any posible help

Just use the trial version until the time runs out then use the other version.....

Yes to all....Although you would need to look at what settings on the filter need to be adjusted. Just like making a filter
and updating the filter its not so easy on some filters to animate.....For instance there may be to many connections
that need to animate at the same time and are not easy to adjust for this....Or the way the filter was designed may need
a different way of achieving its goal to include animating. Hope this helps...

Well not quite all of the filters...For instance EXAMPLE 1 is a map script so it may need to be re-worked in order for it to be animated......
Since it distorts the image and had no setting to undo the distortion to the point of seeing the image that would be hard to animate in the fashion you posted....
So its a case by case on what can and cannot be animated.....
As far as animating between presets I have not dug that far into it but I suppose you could write down the settings and setup
the filter with those settings for animation....

Yes, for instance Sixties Swirl is an old filter updated with the new components.

No. That is called keyframe animation.
On the contrary, Filter Forge offers procedural animation where you use filter components to alter the image depending on the current frame/time passed. This is a different concept with a similar name.

As with everything Filter Forge, the best way to learn is to open an existing animated filter and learn from its structure. Professional Edition is enough for that.

Just learned about the FF11 animation; I guess I'll be updating a couple of filters in the upcoming weeks.

Hello, thanks very much for the good news that what I have shown as examples may be possible if you modify them with the new components except probably for some filters that needs to be reworked to be able to animate it as CFandM said

So then finally since Filter forge 4 that this was suggested and requested, it has finally appeared and is available in FF 11 and I understand now why it was not before because it is not possible to use it with default Professional version so it needed the artboards fr om Studio version

Now it would be great to have a tutorial and guide of HOW To modify filters to animate them, because the information available is not yet very clear

Sorry that I can not download now the trial of FF Studio as I have no time to dedicate to it

The only thing available may be as GMM said to see how the new updated filters work

Yes, you are right, it will depend very much on how the filter is built and how it works to be able if it can be animated or not

Oh, sorry that did not know the difference between keyframe and procedural, thanks

Cool and great if you can show and share what you can do with the animation

You can't animate but you can create animated filters.

With FF11, the only way to animate a filter is to add Animation components to it and use them in the filter tree -- which requires editing the filter or creating a new one.

You can, however, apply an existing non-animated filter to an image sequence representing video frames, which will give you a moving / "animated" result.

In future releases, we will add keyframe animation, which will allow you to animate any existing filter without editing it. However, the keyframe animation will be limited to changing filter parameters over time -- you won't be able to do complex animations that are possible with procedural animation.

This is the feature I've been waiting for for over a decade now. smile:) smile:) smile:) But will this be able to be done in FF Pro, or will I need Studio?

Hello SpaceRay,

yes it is possible to change the filter Dragon Distort II to the filter you wanted to have. And you don´t need to upgrade to the newest version of Filter Forge. I have just uploaded the filter Dragon Distort II Animate version to the queue. So watch out for new filters.

Thanks really very much for making this and showing how it can be done and making it without using FF 11

Will try it and see how it works

Best wishes and stay safe

I was asked to create the filter Dragon Distort II for landscape mode. Here it is:

https://filterforge.com/filters/16164.html

To make this creation possible I used the snippet Proportional Gradient by uberzew.
