okay...not sure if there's a better posting place...or how to word my question for a FAQ...so real quick: I stumbled on the option to change/replace the default FF Life preserver (or bird or adobe window...) background/distortable default image...but cannot find how I did it now... Every transparent filter fills in with that round, marine lifesaver (including frames)... Where do I off it at (and what is it called?) Thanks in advance! [possible follow-up damage to come]...

A new blank image doesn't play well with most effect filters.
You need to open an image to apply an effect to. Press Ctrl+O to open from disk or Ctrl+V to paste your image from clipboard.

Well there are two options to replace the built-in images

1 - Go to Menu File ---> New Image and then choose a resolution and background color and this will replace it, you can also decide to use transparency, but it depends on the filters you may be using, as some filters do not work well with transparency background

2 - Go to Menu File ---> Open Image and open any image that you may want to apply the filter you are using or use it as background

if this two options does not work may be because the filter includes the FF Life saver or any others as Color controls, so you have to go the Settings panel and then replace them there and load a new image of your own

I think what they mean is setting new defaults. As in replacing those default preview images with new images and new masks.
