I enjoy reading things about FF on the net - help files, forum, video's, etc. It is very inspiring and the possibilities seem endless. Great.
But there is also the 'down to earth' stuff, like the Organization on Disc. And this is not mentioned in the Help or on the net. At least I have not been able to find it smile:-)

I am on Mac OSX and have located the relevant FF stuff in /Library/Application support/Filter Forge 8/

My questions are as follows :

1. let's start with 'My Filters'. There I see the stuff that I have created and filters fr om the library that I started to modify and play with. Now, how do I create subfolders in this folder. I tried something a while ago and got strange results. I made a new folder inside My Filters by right-clicking, named 'Test Filters'. Now this subfolder contains 5 subfolders (created by FF the moment I created the subfolder), all empty, but with 'official names : My Environments, My Filters, My settings, Search Index, System. How can I rectify the situation. And how can I create subfolders, without this happening?

2. How can I create new Folders on the same level as the Factory Folders (like Textures, Effects, etc.)?

3. How can I move a filter from one folder to another?

I am a bit afraid to do that on disc, as not to disturb the structure of FF.

4. Wh ere can I find some info about the way things are organized in FF.

5. What goes into My Environments and what are they?

6. My Settings. There I find files like 'Library_501.xml' which show the settings of the controls, but for which Filter?

I know, a lotta questions. But I want to have the fundamentals right from the beginning smile:-)

Thanks for any enlightment,
Beat

PS. I forgot one more question. Sorry smile:-)

When I download filters from the online Lib, they are immediately put into FF itself. But I noticed that the filters I download from the Forum, they end up in my download folder. Can I manually move them to the right location in the /Library/Application support/Filter Forge 8/ directory?

This should be done within FF: right-click the My Filters folder in FF and create a new subfolder.

You can't.

By drag-and-drop only. Unfortunately no hotkey like Cmd+C/Cmd+V

You can open the xml file in your favorite text editor and find the <Information> tag which shows the name, the author and the description.

You can but this is not recommended. Instead, simply double-click the ffxml file in your download folder.

Thanks GMM for your info. I am glad I could clean up all of my attempts to make filters. It was getting a mess.

After they have been installed in FF, can I trash the copy in the download folder?

If I have more specific questions, I'll knock again smile:-)

Sure. FF uses its own filter storage folder which is not your download folder.
