Hello new,
Have you searched the forums for this ? Or much easier have you seen the General Discussion forum on page 1 ? The answer is YES!!! Please, see this threads here: Guide to how to backup your FF filters library from your hard drive Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically? And also there is additionally more information here Is there a way to undo an update to a filter I downloaded ? |

Thanks, SpaceRay, for the info. I'll check it out. I really did do a search, first in Google, then in the General Discussion here. I was looking for probably "oversimplified" info like, "Where are the filters located?" and didn't see anything. I'm used to backing up PS presets which are straight-forwardly listed files in their respective directories inside Photoshop. This one I couldn't figure out.
(Now that I clicked on the first link, I did hit that result, but the "%%" signs intimidated me out of reading further - I kept going back to trying to find a "directory" where they are all stored.) |

If you find the %% intimidating, there is a much easier way to find the filters of filter forge without doing this
The easiest way is to open Filter Forge, go to the fiter menu at the left, and then select a filter in the filter list and press Ctrl+L. After pressing Ctrl + L a new window will open showing you ALL the filters you have, and then you can copy them all and make a backup. This does NOT include the "my filters" folder or any of the "my presets" you may have. |

My filters for FF3 are in the main c drive/users/myusername/roaming/Filter Forge 3/System/Library. A strange place to put them but there it is. To find them I just did a search on the C drive for ffxml files. The method described above is new and a lot easier. I'd like to know if these filters are any different from filters made with previous version of filter forge. Can the older ones be used in FF3?

These filters are not different from previous versions and have the same format and are totally compatible so you can use (as far as I know) any of the older filters on FF 3.0 What you can´t do is use specific 3.0 filters on FF 2.0 because it will not work, but FF 3.0 accepts any filter from FF 1.0 and FF 2.0. You can go upward but not downward.
Well, it is not so strange, this is the "APPDATA" folder and is wh ere lots of other software put also their data, and they also use this special dedicated folder for APPlications DATA". |
