Hi everyone! Got something new for you:

https://filterforge.com/more/news/1082.html
https://filterforge.com/download/beta7/index.html

Please do check the system requirements for 7.0.
We have dropped the 32-bit version completely: the new renderer and the new-feature-hopefully-to-be-revealed-in-beta-stage-2 require tons of RAM that won't fit into the 32-bit address space.

A note to HU prize holders: if you have a prize license (as opposed to a purchased one), you won't get a beta key automatically, unfortunately. Our DBA was unable to add prize licenses to the customer database - this means you will have to request a beta key from the support team.

When installing 7 it asks if you want previous filters imported, it imports all filter except any version 6 filters previously downloaded from library.

YES! What a great surprise and very good news that there is already FF 7 and that one of thhe first things is to make FF faster in some way, although the bad news is that it will not work for all filters and will depend much on how it will use the cache

I think that if FF could be faster and have a realtime preview it could surely skyrocket in popularity and sales and would be very much used by many more people, as this is the most creative and flexible software for creating awesome and amazing things, and there is no other that can compare to it, but the very big problem is the time it takes to preview the result and customize the values, as it takes usually much time, unless you are using simple filter or photo filters and do not use high resolutions

TRY THIS NEW FF 7 WITHOUT UNINSTALLING ANY OLDER VERSION

Installing New or Beta Version - Should older version be uninstalled?

7.002 brings more greenified components for you:
https://filterforge.com/more/news/1085.html

Unfortunately the anticipated memory-heavy feature got postponed.

Wow! Thats quite an update!

Many of the old "greys" would theoretically allow for presampling optimizations. Should we expect worse performance with this update (or if we use the new greens)?

I believe the new renderer that was released in 7.001 already takes into account the new greens. By all means, feel free to report speed discrepancies between obsolete and new component versions.

Well, in thte same way as it happened already with FF 6 update of the greenified components, now is the same as before, only is useful and great to all the experienced, skilled and who knows how to use these greenified components, as there no information on what is different and what can be done now, that was not possible before.

Congratulations and my best wishes to all the filter forgers that are able to use these new components, and hope to see some filters that may be using these

I hope and wish that the next beta update is not about something about better scripting or something that is only for skilled and expert filter forgers

Kinda surprised to see such comments from you, SpaceRay. You are not a novice to either FF or creating filters. You surely know what mapping is about? The new beta simply makes a few inputs mappable – that's all, nothing too advanced here.

To be fair using if you kinda been doing average FilterForging for the last I don't know how many years, you would be using controller inputs to control those. Additionally you could get away not using HDR values for component inputs. And since HDR can be a step-above most FilterForging needs, having these particular inputs greenified is a slightly a bit more specialized.

I think it requires a couple examples and a bit more introduction for everyone to get acquainted with the idea.

Some of the inputs may be more specialized, and some are pretty straightforward (at least from my non-artistical point of view). One doesn't need HDR values to plug a map into Checker's Inclined input or into Tiles' Fill Mode. Here is an example image from our recent promo email.

Well, I agree that I am not a novice and have created 22 filters, BUT all of them are simple things

I agree that I know wha mapping is, but maybe I am confusing things and really it could be more simpler than it seems, but still is not clear, will have to see what are the differences from the original components and the new greenified ones

Am I reading correctly that the beta key request is only for people who have purchased 6 or pre-purchased 7? I have version 5 professional and I'm beyond the 30 days of beta 7 trial, so no dice?

Yes, you're reading it correctly. The same condition as last year, when FF6 was in beta stage.
You can upgrade to FF6 or FF7 to get access to the beta 7.

Installed the beta of FF7 not reading the host compatibility because normally I have no issues regarding FF connecting with the software I have, but this time it only had stand-alone as the option. So I looked, no Adobe Photoshop CS listed, only the CC version.

Will this be the case once FF7 is out of beta too?
Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

Yes.
We are dropping official support for ancient host versions, however FF (at least FF7) is likely to continue normal functioning as a plugin. However you will need to install the plugin manually.

Darn, will just have to use the pre FF7's, unless it's a texture am working on. Either that or check out the prices for Adobe monthly payments.
