I was very surprised to see on the side of the website the FF facebook this text

We were about to miss the #inktober trend with all those preparations for the Filter Forge 6.0 official release.

If I understand correctly this, it may mean that they are already preparing the official release of FF 6.0 soon in October without having a beta 3 release?
Have they already finished it?
what features will be included in the new FF 6.0?

There are LOTS of requests on the FF wishlist and many of them made many times during these years and requested each time for every new version and they are not included

I wonder if this is true that it will be released in October soon?

On October 5 was published the first FF 6.0 filter on the FF library

I should be happy, and should be a very good news but regrettably I am not because this may mean that FF 6.0 will have very few new features?
Until now there is only the 64 bit compatibility and the greenified components, so what other things will be included in the new version?

AFAIK it is not like they'll stop after this one smile;-) We're all better off with small* frequent releases smile:-)

*I'm not sure the "small" term really fits V6 in terms of codework smile;-)

Of course I would agree with you IF the make more frequent releases with new updated features, but from the history of FF and if I remeber well, after an official release version, have never been added any new feature to any new version, just only small fixes and simple updates, never included a new feature, please correct me if I am wrong

I feel bad in the way that if we have to wait another year or year and a half for FF 7.0 to see any new features again, and considering at there will be few things added to FF6.0 and considering that there are still many useful and helpful requested features in the wishlist that are still pending since long long time ago, some was for FF 4.0, then was not possible and was for FF 5.0, and then was again not included and hoped to be included in FF 6.0 but maybe again it will not be included either

Is true that I really do not know what will be really included in the final FF 6.0 version as is still a secret and there is nothing told about it not any hint, so will have to wait and see what the FF team have done, maybe they surprise us greatly, who knows?

Very few features, really? I disagree.
If you count changes one by one (which is odd), FF 6 will have over 30 updated components – more than any previous version.

If you count changes by amount of effort put into them (which is reasonable), then please bear in mind FF 6 was fully rewritten in Cocoa – this is probably the largest codework since version 2.0.

I'm with GMM on this one. At least on the Mac Cocoa has improved stability significantly, for example, since I have been using FF 6 beta I have had 2 crashes. Compare this with FF5 or 4, where I usually would have multiple crashes every day I used it. Also the change to 64 bit has increased speed moderately and allows for future development as 32 bit slowly goes away.

Also the greenification of controls is a fairly significant venture as well.

My 2 cents. smile8)

Yeah, the 64bit cocoa version really ensures that FilterForge will continue into the future. I think that's really big. And the recent greenification is really really awesome too. Brings some fresh air into the mixture of what's already one of the nicest, flexible procedural content creation environment. Greenifying all those inputs is going to open some really interesting things and I really like the way it's done here. It's a very FilterForge approach that I wouldn't have thought of.

So I kinda have these ideas to develop these self-generating image generators that continuously pump out random but pretty pictures. Part of it was doable with FilterForge 5 and earlier, but required control inputs for some of the parameters resulting in really nasty filters with a gajillion inputs. Greenifying those control inputs means that it kinda gets rid of some of those controls over internal mechanisms to control inputs. So that's kinda big.

Of course it's not to say I still have wish lists anyway. smile;) I think sometimes a lot of these updates are very utility, so you kinda don't see the awesomeness until you actually use it in an artistic context. Another thing I sometimes think is that I kinda wish for some artistic updates. For example, kaleidoscope feels like it can enjoy more algorithms? They're just minor ideas that's been rolling around. smile;) But anyway.

Of course that I understand well all the great amount of work to change to 64 bit and also that there is 30 updated components that has some new greenified components, and all this is very good and great

BUT what I mean with this thread is not that I do not recognize all the work done, is that I was expecting to have something as amazing, awesome and very useful and helpful as the Map Switch and bomber plus that have changed very much how to make filters and opened a totally new way and world, including the availability of having multiple image input

I mean something that will make sure that you want to surely want to upgrade
