Hi,

It was said that you can install Filter Forge in a windows based tablet, the same as any other windows software, but the problem I see is that you need to have a license key to use it after trial ends, and as far as I know you can not share and is not allowed to share the license between devices.

So I suposse and think that If I want to use Filter Forge in the tablet and also on my own computer, do I need to buy two key licenses?

And if I for example buy a new laptop computer, I would then need 3 different key licenses?

I am telling this because I have seen that in other software I have seen they may not allow to install the software in more than one computer, but is allowed to install it on a portable device either a laptop or tablet. So you can install the software and share the same license key only if it is installed on a non desktop computer, and it seems that this is easy to detect by the software if it is a desktop computer or not.

Also another software companies allow to install in two computers, whatever they are

Adobe Photoshop seems to have a way that you can install in two computers, but if you may want to use it on another device, you can disable the license key on one device, and then enable it again on another different device or computer.

You are right. Here’s the quote from the Filter Forge EULA, the Grant of License section:

Quote
d). Standard License. Unless otherwise specifically provided under valid invoicing, purchase order or licensing terms accepted by Licensor in writing (e.g. trial, beta, or multiple user license as specified in a contemporaneous purchase order or agreement) granted by the Licensor upon registration of the Product (online or otherwise as provided by Licensor), Licensee is granted a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to Operate one (1) copy of the specified major version of the Product by one user account in the operating system (“User”) during the Term of this Agreement on one Client Device

However you can completely remove Filter Forge from one device and install it on another one, using the same key.

This is REALLY stupid. I'm the only person that every operates on my machines, and it's unreasonable to expect me to purchase multiple licenses. The software should be licensed to ME and not my machine (just as every single other piece of professional software that I use is). This is so obscurely stated in the documents, and definitely not made clear on the purchase screen. FF is probably not the solution for me, I guess. Will ask for a refund, and tell my org to do the same with their machines.

The licenses per-computer thing? A lot of other software companies do the same thing you know. It's a standard that's been going on for the last 20 something years. :/

Def not in the professional design world. Every single thing I currently use (Adobe suite, Apple FCX, C4D, Octane Render) either allows multiple machines, or check-in/check-out licensing. Doesn't make any sense to require one person to buy multiple licenses.

Yeah but the check-in checkout system is still a method of pre-computer licensing. You can't run two instances of octane at a time on the same network.

I donno maybe FF can do that? It's not like a bad idea I figure. It'd be nice to have licenses for both Mac/PC honestly.

That's fine with me. As I stated before, I'm the only one using the thing. I just need to switch between machines depending on where I am (in-studio vs on the road, or mac vs pc). And FF certainly isn't too small of a company to do it--if OTOY can do it, FF can.

FF is already pretty crazy expensive--seems greedy to make individuals buy it multiple times over.

I'm afraid this is not in our plans. Sorry.
By the way, if you are using multiple machines you have paid for multiple Windows licenses. Have you complained to Microsoft already? smile;)

If Filter Forge feels expensive for you, just wait for the next sale or get it for free.
