Hello,
I'm using Filter Forge and Gimp. Is it possible in Filter Forge to mark an area and apply a filter only to this area? Thanks and regards, Pingpong |

In photoshop plugin you can load a layer so it will be applied the effect only to this layer
I think that you can not directly mark an area to be able to apply a filter, only way I may think is to load a selection, but you would need to modify the filter for this. sorry not to help more |

This is not possible in Filter Forge but should be possible in GIMP. I'm not familiar with GIMP: does is have a mask function? You can process the entire image in FF, load both images back in GIMP and use the processed image as a mask.
Or you can select an area in GIMP, save this selection as a separate file, process it in FF and blend the result with the original. |

I'm not so good with gimp and FF. I made the picture (a part of a broken wall) in the attached file. I loaded it in FF, but when I apply a texture the hole picture is being covered and not just the white part. How can I handle this?

You can't draw a mask in Filter Forge, but you can draw it in GIMP, save it as an image, and open it in Filter Forge.
Some clarification on what GMM said. The image you linked to is a mask (a .png with transparency). It sounds like you are trying to use it as an image, but you want to use it as a selection. In Filter Forge, load an image, or create a new image, of the same dimensions as the mask. Then, also in Filter Forge, open a selection, and choose the mask you created in GIMP and saved as an image. Now the filter should apply only on the white area of the selection, not the transparent area of the selection. Or you could just render the whole image in Filter Forge, then handle the masking/blending in GIMP (yes, GIMP has layer masks), but that's up to you. Hope that helped. ![]() Side-note: SpaceRay mentions how you can use Filter Forge as a plugin for Photoshop, and it loads and applies the selection automatically, without having to save it as a separate file and import it back to photoshop. Really starting to wish I could write a program to do this with Gimp & FF. ![]() |
