hello,
I still use the trial version of Filter Forge 4 and would like to purchase this. But I am still confused because I have some problems - can someone help me?

1.)
with many filters only 1 presets will appear in Filter Forge. on the Homepage but will display several different presets.
2.)
in some of the filters crashes the program al time. first is rendered long and then get an error message. i send this report also to Filter Forge.

Should I wait with buying for the new version 5? Or can i (for free or for little mor money) update from 4 to 5?

Thx
(Sorry for my bad english)

Hello Arielle and welcome smile:-)

1.) The Filter author probably only made one preset. The rest that you see on the homepage were generated by the submission wizard but only appear on the page. The filters you download only come with the presets the authors include.

2.) Are you getting the "Bad Allocation" error? Then you should try with a smaller image or run it from within Photoshop. Also do a search in the forum for more information, there are some threads about this and some tips on settings.

Well if you want to continue using it after the trial, you should buy 4.0. I have no clue about this, but my guess is, that it will be several month until 5.0 comes out. It only just entered beta stage 1. And yes, you can upgrade for a fee, or create and submit very good filters to earn lifetime upgrades(Not easy).

Arielle. I understand your doubts.

As Sharandra said, some filter maker only made 1-2 presets. But the Filter Forge library is made for showing more examples. So, when the presets aren't enough, it automatically generate some more examples.
Anyway don't worry. Most of the filters have 9 or more presets ( if you download my filters, they all have at least 9 presets smile;) )

Some of the filters are slow. Especially if your computer is old or has not so much memory ( imagine that I still use Windows XP, so I also have speed problems. Ha! Ha! ).
If the program crashes with some filter, I suggest to close all other programs, especially Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Google Chrome, because they take a lot of memory. Using only Filter Forge is the best option. After you finish using Filter Forge, then you open other programs.

About buying.... Filter Forge is making the 5.0 version. If you want to have the latest version and you can wait... then in about 6-10 months the new version should be ready.
If instead you don't want to stop using it some months, you can just buy the 4.0 version ( it may be a good timing because Filter Forge company will start to discount the old version before the new version is ready ). Then, when the 5.0 version is ready, you can simply buy the update ( the update is less expensive than buying a full version of Filter Forge ).

Thank you very much!
You have helped me a lot;-)

Could you tell me what are the recommended settings for saving images? Is it possible to change the dpi from 72dpi to 300dpi?

Arielle01, what OS version do you use?

As for the DPI: Filter Forge is not designed for pre-print and doesn't have the printing capability. You can render your image as is and then set the required DPI in the print settings.
