After making this other thread
FF 3.0.14 - Copying some components in filter editor they get modified Knowing now that this is not a bug or an error, and is the way that FF works, so I am asking here now: __________________________________________________________ What is the best way to copy components from one filter to another? What things need to be considered when copy components from one filter to another? Do they have to have the same FF version? I mean if you can copy a component from a FF 3.0 into a FF 2.0 filter? How important are essential are the Global Parameters of the filter source and destiny? (because these settings are not copied) _______________________________________________________ It may be seem to be easy and obvious to answer to this question, but is not so easy after all the things I have tested for the other above thread. The way I do it myself 1 - Open the source filter in filter editor 2 - Sel ect the components that you want to copy 3 - Copy them 4 - Close this filter editor window 5 - Open the destiny filter in filter editor 6 - Paste the components in this filter This are the steps I have done until now and it works, BUT sometimes I have problems with this. Depending on WICH components you choose to copy I have had problems when you paste some components that they appear with different settings than they had in the original source filter and the visual result shown in the preview of that component looks badly. It seems that you can ONLY copy the components of the components of the filter, but not the global parameters of that filter, and it seems that this may be the reason of the problems if the destiny filter does not have the same global parameters values. For an example of what I mean, please, see the first 3 posts of the above thread link Surely I am missing something, or something that I do not understand Please, could any experienced filter forger be so kind to explain, what is the best way to copy components fr om one filter to another? Thanks very much |

You need to understand that when you copy a filter or a portion of it, you're copying the functionality of it along with whatever local variables it needs to function in that way. Understand that you're also copying local variables with it which allow the filter to function in such a way. Some of these variables don't change some are altered by a slider.
The size, variation, and seamless tiling controls can be any value provided they're global variables intended for alteration of the filter's output. Size affects distance based attributes. Variation is your random seed, seamless tiling affects seamless tiling. You can't do very much about these parameters. Presets store them, you can change them, I can change them. However, you can disable them via override, this just basically locks up any of the parameters so they don't change. But the setting won't carry over to other filters. In the end if you want to be specific about it, you'll need to look through the structure, determine which items aren't correctly producing the desired effect, and change some local parameter. That's case by case. I honestly think you shouldn't worry too much about it overall. Personally, I think you've kinda over complicated it. ![]() |

Thanks for explaining it, I will read it carefully and have to make some tests and read some of the help pages, so I can understand this better, and see how it really works and what happens when doing some things.
