Hey all, new user of FF, just about to purchase so I thought I'd pop into the forums to say hi.

There is some amazing filters here - wow! Just learning FF with the trial version - I have a lot to learn! The plan is to generate texture maps for my 3d work with modo. I'm just a hobbyist but love tinkering Quick question, I am able it seems to purchase a pre-order of FF v4 when I buy v3. I am likely to do this, but there is little information it seems about v4. I appreciate that might be because there isn't any - fair enough - but I thought I would ask in case I am missing the obvious...is there any v4 information available? Cheers all, hope to be posting some filters soon! Steve SteveR |

Thanks Ghislaine. Just applied my first set off FF bitmaps (diffuse/bump/specular) to a model I am working on in Modo - looks very nice

Hi SteveR, and welcome to the family
The Filter Forge team like to suprise us with new versions, so they don't give much info about what's new in the next version. We all have to patiently wait for the beta to come out, and see. Yep... Just sitting here patiently. Counting the seconds... Watching the paint dry |

Thanks for the warm welcome folks
So guess buying the v4 per-order is a calculated risk without the calculation! Well it's only money, what the hell! SteveR |

I expect the 4.0 beta to be out by early September, so you'll be able to decide whether you need the preorder.

If you do not have FF 3.0 or if you have FF 2.0 I think that being able to buy the full version or upgrade of V 4.0 will not make much difference NOW, as you will not be able to use FF 3.0 as you are buying the 4.0 version (or upgrade to 4.0) and not 3.0. So you would have to wait at least 6 to 8 months (or more) to be able to have the 4.0 final version that you have pre-ordered.

Unless FF Inc. allows you to preorder 4.0 and be able to use FF 3.0 meanwhile. So I think is much better to upgrade now to FF 3.0 and then upgrade to 4.0 (unless you want to wait or use the beta version)
Perhaps on the week after 4 of september ? Why ? Because on the 4 of September ends the upgrade offer |

I think the deal is that I but version 3 and then at the same time I can pay extra for an upgrade to version 4 when it comes out - given the discounts at present it seems quite a good deal (assuming v4 is a decent enough upgrade). Don't get me wrong I am in no way complaining or being critical - the special offer is a good deal period

Why wait a week ? I think I have not written it right and is misunderstood.
"In the same week after the 4 of september" or better perhaps "In the first week of September after 4 of September Of course that FF Inc. can decide whenever they think possible to release it and I do not want to hurry it up.
This is as far as I know is the normal way is possible, I really do not remember what happened with FF 2.0 and FF 3.0 but this is very possible to happen what you want. |

I have seen that FF Inc. has changed the date of the 4 of september that was ending the sale until 10 of september.

I do not know if this means that the beta release is going to be after this sale, or this does not matter for the release and could be any day. |
