Today I was downloading a filter, when Filter Forge suddenly stopped and my computer went off too. I switched on the computer again and clicked on FF, but FF started running without opening. I tried to uninstall and reinstall FF 3.007, but no way.
I changed back to version 3.006, but same story.
Checking the process...
C:\Program Files\Filter Forge 3\Bin\Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe
...is running without opening the program.

What to do?

I deleted all ( also the folders ) and reinstalled. Now it works.
Let's see what happens once I put back the library and my filters.

This is very weird and strange, BUT can happen.

Sometimes it has happened to me that I wanted to start FF and it would NOT, and when tried again it gave me errors, or told me that was already running. So first go to the "Task Manager" (ctrl + Alt + Del keys) and look if the Filter forge application is already running, if it is running click on "end task" o "end process"

This way I have solved it in my case, but in your case can be different.

I am not really what to do in this case, and probably it would be better to wait until tomorrow if GMM could help you in a better way.

MY POSSIBLE SUGGESTION

If the reinstall does not work, perhaps you need to clean the registry, and for this I can sugest and recommend to use the very good www.ccleaner.com

Backup the whole system folder of filter forge inside the APPDATA

Uninstall Filter Forge and see if the files of filter forge in the APPDATA has been deleted

Download CCLEANER and use it to clean the all the windows

Then after finished, you have to use the Registry tool cleaner

It also includes a backup option for the registry that you can keep in case something would go wrong (I have never had any problem using this program, although you never know)

Then after finishing this you can try to install again Filter Forge and install back your backup you have made of the system folder.

I deleted all and it was ok.
Now I put back the backup of the filters....... and again it is not starting.
But this time I don't know if it is caused by loading the library?

Maybe the settings got screwed or something... When you delete and reinstall, don't copy everything in you APPDATA folder back on the clean install. Copy only the preset folder and the library folder.
If this still doesn't work, try deleting the last filter you downloaded. Maybe it's causing your problem.
If you remember what filter it was, just go to the filter webpage and see it's number (For example http://www.filterforge.com/filters/10325.html - the number is 10325). In the library folder, delete the file with the name Library_<NUMBER>-<#>.ffxml (# means there's a number there, usualy 1-3).

Hope that works. If not, wait for instructions from GMM, or write the support team.

Perhaps Morgantao has the key to this, Now I remember I have seen in some post that someone had downloaded a filter that had a problem and until he did not delete THAT last filter. FF refused to work with this filter, so only after he deleted that filter he could solve the problem.

If you remember which filter you have been downloading before the problem happened, you have to delete that last filter and try again to start FF.

Yes, I also, the first thing I thought was deleting the filter that could not be downloaded completely. But no result.
I even tried to go in the library and open a filter, thinking that FF was still going to open the filter that didn't work well. ( This way I could oblige FF to open a different filter ) But no result.
I guess it is something else connected with the library because, without adding the library, both FF 3.007 and 3.006 works.

I'm adding the filters in small groups now, and it is still fine, so I guess I can after see where is the problem.

Anyway thanks so much for the help. smile;)

Also I remember now something that happened to someone else that the filters did not works, and then he tried to download some new filters, and then FF made new settings and all was solved.

I have found one thread about this topic

New problem: FF2 stuck on bad filter-keeps crashing...

It is possible that what made FF3 crashing were two things together:
1. A filter that didn't download correctly
2. To have copied the old filters fr om FF2 Library.
When we have two version of the same filter in the Library, ( for example "Library 250-1.ffxml" and "Library 250-2.ffxml" ), FF3 tries to delete the older one.
It should do when we open the program, but sometimes it doesn't (especially if the last time that we used FF3, we used My Filters and not the Library ).
So, it is possible that, when I downloaded the filter from the online library, my FF3 tried to put it near a location wh ere there were several old filters to delete. It started deleting the files and downloading at the same time. It got busy ( I don't know for others, but in my PC, when FF3 runs, it takes a big part of my computer memory ) and something went wrong.

Well, I take it in good way: it is a chance to review my FF filters. smile:D
It is working now, so it's ok.

Morgantao is right: it is incorrect or incomplete download of the last filter that causes problems. In this case you need to delete the %AppData%\Filter Forge 3\System\LibraryStructure.xml and %AppData%\Filter Forge 3\System\Library.xml and try to run Filter Forge. The start will be slow – up to 40 minutes with 8000 filters on a slow machine – as Filter Forge is re-indexing all your library filters.

In most cases removing these two files and re-indexing the library should help. If it doesn't, the problem is in the filter itself which should be removed form the Library folder.

OH YES, the expert comes to help, I forgot totally that all the filters you download updates the library structure database file and the library.xml file and if there has been an error, is possible that this have broken and even after deleting the filter, the error keeps in the library files.

Very good to know about this. Thanks.

Thanks GMM. smile:)
Everything is back fine now. My FF3 is running even better than before. 555

( Everybody will wonder what is the "555". smile:p
In Thai the pronunciation of the number 5 is also "ha". So many Thais use to write 555 or 555+ to say "Ha! Ha! Ha!" )
