When I try to put a value control on a slider input for a map script, it gives me a little warning, and, like the warning suggests, does not behave as a user would expect. It seems like negative values are actually small values, and large values just get capped. Is it possible to have a value control that behaves properly? It would make handling fractal stuff much easier. I thought of using an HDR map, but it won't let me get values within the prepare() function.

4 years later, I have a Mandelbrot filter, but I can not use Value controls with a map script. It complains, won't allow me to submit and says I should use the Gray Scale control instead. This makes no sense, of course. From what I can see you can not use Value controls as a slider input to a map script. So, sadly FF will not get a Mandelbrot filter unless I cripple the filter and put in slider controls, which do not have a nice slider feel and are next to impossible to zoom down into the fractal with. Oh well...

Here's a somewhat clunky workaround to get a Value input for Script you could try. Note that the Script needs to use the initialization routine so that it reads the value just once (for every rendering thread).

I found out that if you make the Script Component Grayscale Input an HDR input, you don't need the Add Component.

To finish up this topic, at least for now, here's a quote and solution from the User Gallery / Chaos Fields:
