How can I manually install the FF plugins? What exact files need to be copied into the PS Plugins directory? I placed the plugins into the Plugins/Filters dir but now PS crashes with this?

From the message it seems that you are using Photoshop CS5.1 on MacOS
What version of Filter Forge are you using ? I only have Windows, and I can tell only how is installed in windows. If you mean how to activate the filter forge plugin so it works inside Photoshop it is made automatically when installed BUT if you want to make it manually as far as I know there is ONLY one file that needs to be copied to Photoshop folder and is the corresponding .8BF file to the following folders Photoshop 32 bit ---> Plugins folder ---> Filters ---> Filter Forge 2 ----> put here 32 bit .8BF FF file Photoshop 32 bit ---> Plugins folder ---> Filters ---> Filter Forge 3 ----> put here 32 bit .8BF FF file Photoshop 64 bit ---> Plugins folder ---> Filters ---> Filter Forge 2 ----> put the .8BF FF file x64 version of FF 2 Photoshop 64 bit ---> Plugins folder ---> Filters ---> Filter Forge 2 ----> put here .8BF FF file x64 version of FF 3 Be careful to copy the 32 bit version of each into the correct folder of 32 bit photoshop and the same with the x64 version This is the way I have my own FF plugins installed I do not know if FF needs to install any other file in any other place out of this folders I have put above or if on MacOS is different than in Windows |

I do not have any .8BF files. I only have .plugin files.

Please do the following:
- make sure Photoshop is not running; - copy the entire 'Filter Forge 2' folder from Applications to Applications/Photoshop/Plugins/Filters - delete the filterforge2-ppc.plugin file from there (if you've got an Intel-based Mac). |

First of all, we can see from the bundle identifier listed in the stack trace, "com.filterforge.pluginv3", that he's using version 3.x of the plugin.
Semper, here's what I did to manually install FilterForge 3.0 for Photoshop CS 5.1: Don't copy any of the actual files from the Filter Forge folder into the "Adobe Photoshop CS5.51/Plug-ins/Filters" folder. Instead, create an alias of the "Filter Forge 3 universal x86.plugin" plugin, and place it in the "Adobe Photoshop CS5.51/Plug-ins/Filters" folder. (Hold down Command-Option while you drag the "Filter Forge 3 universal x86.plugin" file to create an alias of it). It looks like you're getting an error when Photoshop tries to load the "Filter Forge 3 universal.plugin". You want only the "Filter Forge 3 universal x86.plugin". |

Mark, thank you very much for a brilliant and yet so simple solution.
@Filter Forge I would say it's a bit of a pity releasing FF3 with such a bug with the plug in still existing and giving no proper and clear guidelines to users when installing FF3 in plug in mode with Photoshop CS5.1 and Lion (which both aren't that new anymore). Far less expensive software being released addresses this better. A missed opportunity. ![]() |

copy & delete is one option, albeit not ideal.
version 1 played well with Symbolic Links. Version 3 likely inherited this feature. This is a capability native to OSX. The microsoft people added native, spiffy creation tools starting with the public alpha of Windows 7 (vista), but die hard XP Pro fans (even those running XP in VM) need a third party tool: Link Shell Extension http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinksh...llext.html microsoft encouraged me to upgrade to linux via W7 |
