Sorry if this has been asked before!!

Can I keep my FF2 and still install beta FF3?? So I have both versions at the same pc??

If not... Do I need to uninstall FF2 before instal FF3??

Yes. As a precaution, I'd make a backup of all your ffxml files before installing, though. I think a couple people had issues losing filters.

I have FF 2.0 installed and then I have installed FF 3.0 Beta with the previous settings and importing previous filters and there is NO problem in having both in the same PC. There is still NO FF 3.0 filters so you need the FF 2.0 or FF 1.0 filters.

FF 3.0 installation will COPY the filters you have from FF 2.0 into it´s own folder.

You do not have to uninstall FF 2.0 before FF 3.0

I have seen an important thing, I am using Windows 7 64 bit and FF 2.0 is installed as a 64 bit application, BUT the FF 3.0 Beta MUST be installed in the X86 32 bit folder, so they can´t mix toghether.

Bear in mind and be careful that this is the first Beta version, so do not make any very important thing as you could find a bug or it could give you an error and could loose what you have been doing.

Yes, as a precaution, you could make a backup of all your ffmxl (FF Filters) before installing FF 3.0, But I do not know how could you loose the filters because as said above, FF 3.0 will make a copy of the filter and do not mix and remove any filter.

Installed both. Didn't make backup because I like to live dangerously. Everything works fine.

I also installed both without making any backup, so as you say, I also like to live dangerously smile:D smile:D

Well, I did not make any backup, because I have seen that FF 3.0 would be installed in x86 folder instead of the usual hard drive root that is for 64 bit compatible and is where FF 2.0 is already installed, so they could not be mixed toghether.

Even if you have a Windows 32 bit, instead of 64 bit, I think that there will be no problems installing FF 3.0 in the same hard drive, just choose another different folder for FF 3.0 than where is FF 2.0

And if you still fear that could happen anything (which 99% probably it will not happen), you could install FF 3.0 in a different partition or another hard drive to be really sure that will not be mixed, but I do not really think that this is needed.

Thank you for the answers smile:)

I'm using windows 7, and when I installed FF2, i used the default settings, and it's in the program files (86) folder - Now I'm not too wise when it comes to computers, so I have to ask, can I make a new folder in the (86)folder, and then install FF3 inthere??

Sorry for my bad english!!

Yes, Lorenzen you can make any kind of new folders INSIDE x86 folder, it is exactly the same that the normal window 64 bit on the root hardrive, so it will be the same, although ALL about the program must be inside the x86 folder.

I have just found one slightly problem AFTER installing FF 3.0

It seems that FF 3.0 have changed the default program that will open when downloading a filter from the online library, so now instead of opening the FF 2.0 as before, now it opens on the new FF 3.0 instead, and the filters are downloaded in the FF 3.0 filters folder.

I do not know if this can be changed and make the default program FF 2.0

GMM from Filter Forge has already solved the problem of FF 3.0 changing as the default program, you can see here the solution he has given.

I use an iMac OS 10.6.6 and after installing FF3 beta none of my downloaded filters or favorites were installed/copied.

Any ideas for a Macman in need of help.
