In this thread I'll answer questions about built-in preview images we introduced in FF3.0.

Will be able to CHOOSE which preview you want to see in the filter library before downloading the filter ?

Also, I love the life saver substitutes, but is it (or will it) be possible to set which image to use as the preset image for each preset? I have a few filters that would look zillion times better on the sample preset images on the web if the presets were rendered using something with Alpha channel.

Yes, that's how I wanted it to work -- when you save a preset when a certain built-in preview is active, the preview image ID is saved with the preset and is shown in the filter library (and the Show Original Image link on the filter webpage also leads to the proper preview image).

However, as far as I can see, it's not implemented properly yet. I'll put this on my personal todo list for Beta 2.

wow! woohoo! It looks really great! I love the idea of new preview images with transparency too. I do wish there was a preview image of people though, I tend to do a lot of portraits. I would love to see about 6 to 9 faces close up of all skin hues(pink, yellow, tan, brown, chocolate), male & female and young and old. The faces would ideally be close together. Here is an example- but I would rather whole faces than half- but this would do- just to have human faces to test out the filters. Do you think something like this is possible for the final release?

I found this picture from this site http://geoffallan.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

I'd like a preview image of a single face.

Future betas will include portraits (and people photos in general). We won't include portrait collages/assemblies like the one shown above, just regular portrait photos.

Actually, we planned to include at least one portrait and a general people photo into the first beta, but we just didn't have time to sort through thousands of microstock images.

One minor problem: when we include 9 more portraits and 5 more general people photos, selecting the preview images via the menus will become too inconvenient. We'll have to design and implement a new interface for chosing previews, perhaps a dedicated dialog box.

Cybersparkle, thank you for the specifics, now we have much better search criteria for candidate images for portraits.

Please, Will it be possible also to use and see the new built in previews in the online library ?

Please, I wish the answer could be YES !

If you are a longtime Filter Forge user, you're probably sick and tired of the default lifesaver image that Filter Forge uses to preview rendered results – and so are we!

Because as you say we are a little bit sick and tired to see only and always just the lifesaver, and it is great to have this on FF 3.0 BUT will it change also in the online library in the near future ?

It could be much better to see some of the new previews also in the online library and not just on the FF 3.0 software.

I know that this will change the online library works and most probably how filters are submitted but as you are so smart and creative, you probably can find a way to make it

I've been following this, and I apologize if the question has been answered elsewhere, but I haven't seen it.

My first thought was that we would be able to specify our own images to be part of the defaults available.

From the sounds of it, this isn't being contemplated, but I'm hoping I'm wrong and that there was some discussion elsewhere that this would eventually appear.

Having a preview image in Filter Forge means that we also need to have it on the server side, in the Filter Library (to be used as an original image for previews of presets that were saved with this image.)

When releasing the new beta 3.004 is put "This is the third and final stage of the beta test" So I suposse that this beta is the last one before the final release, but this one does not include any new built-in images.

I mean that you said that in future betas would included portraits, and if there will not be any more betas, will this be available on the final version and did not have time to include it in Beta 3.04 or is something that will not be included ?

Perhaps you have some problems implementing them as you said and needs to make anad design a new interface for this and could be more difficult than is said.

Thanks very much

I understand that you can´t specify your OWN images to be part of the default images presets because as you said it would need to be in the server, so this is not possible, BUT what about the new built-in preview images, would we be able to change to any of these bultín and choose them by default instead of the lifesaver ?

Please, the question is, will this lifesaver substitute preview presets finally be implemented properly and available in the final FF 3.0 release ???

Is there a good news answer now in October 2011 for both of the answers made by Totte and me ?
