The alpha blending seems to be not right in Normal blend mode. Areas where particles overlap get brighter fringes at the edges of polygons, compared to the polygon fill. It looks a bit as if blending is done using "composite" blend instead of "pre-multiplied" blend.

Here's the image: note the bright outlines of the successive polygons, which I would not expect to be such.

It's not a bug. Blending with tint color produces this confusing effect.
Set Tint Amount to zero.

But why? There's no reason it should have to. And, I agree: it's a confusing effect!

There are a lot of different tint effects, the current one you are using is "color" change it to normal and you will get a normal effect.

Why not have the default be normal, because normally when tinting something, the color blend option give the best results. So for a default it is great, most of the time...
