Very interesting Uber. I'd have never thought that the hue values are preserved with tint amount 0. For some reason only HLS and HSB extraction can access that info, the rest sees no hue at all. I wonder if that's a bug or a feature. smile:)

But otherwise it's a very clean and elegant solution. /me tips hat

That's something strange out here in the woods. Is it a trap or a secret entrance?

Negative HDRs are useful! The blue parts are +- HDR colors, so basically it's the opposite color of the orangish red I have in the scene.

It means "Big Octaves on Top", not "Big Particles on Top". Only the octave scale is used for sorting, the particle size is not considered.

Sjeiti would you mind posting the filter for the hair balls? I design board games for fun and they work perfectly for top down trees or bushes.

Here it is. I remade it because my original was called Blood01 and I was searching blood so it never showed up (of course I found it after I remade it). Oh well I think I remade it a little better.

ok, i've ignored this one for some time now, but i have to ask with the bombers being out now... what the heck are 'octaves' when speaking of graphics? i know what they are in music, but in graphics, i'm lost. i even looked this up on a 'define: octaves' basis and found nothing on it for graphics. so, what are 'octaves' in graphics?

I believe he is talking about detail. Imagine higher octaves being smaller and smaller details. Imagining it with fractals is easier, the next octave being the repeat of the pattern, on and on. So in Bombers, Size Chaos will not automatically make smaller particles be on top/bottom because they are part of the same Octave. When you add Details you get ever smaller particles, there are several octaves of detail added based on the amount you are using (maybe every 10% or so?). Anyway, the smaller particles that result from Detail are the ones that will sort. This may not be 100% correct.

Octaves are layers of non-fractal (i.e. simple) noise, which are added together to produce fractal noise. It's called fractal because all octaves are essentially the same, but each subsequent octave is twice as small as the previous one.

This article includes some pics to illustrate the idea:
http://eldeann7.chez-alice.fr/perlin_noise/index.htm

Also, the Help articles on Perlin and other noises describe how Details and Roughness parameters affect octaves in Filter Forge. The Bomber handles octaves the same way.
