Here are a some FF3 Bugs i have found so far, i will add more if i find any also -
When you first start FF3 and click "Filter Updates" it seems to need to update the structure which takes a long time. Since i only downloaded V3 today it seemed a bit odd that the new structure is not built into the new installer. --- Something that is missing now is with the notice when you start FF and there is a texture using the lifesaver image. It needs to be updated to say you can switch it but currently it still has the same text from older versions. Also there is a sort of bug with that notice in that even if you click on the light yellow bit then it loads the Open Image dialog, since there is roll-over links though you would think that those should trigger it rather than just clicking anywhere on the popup notice. --- Another error is that on all the exe files in the \Filter Forge 3\Bin folder say - 2006-2010 Filter Forge, Inc. All rights reserved. for the Properties > Version tab details and when you run the command line apps it also says 2010, you should probably change that to 2011 now. ![]() |

I can't see the new dialogs by the way like this -
http://www.filterforge.com/upload/for...ate-Br.jpg Since i requested that feature i was looking forward to that most after the multiple images feature as it will improve my FF workflow a lot i think. I see the main options and recently loaded images list etc but can't see how to use multiple images either yet. Do i need to input a V3 beta key first before these show or are they not added just yet? |

Ok now i see how to load multiple images, if anyone else has not figured it out you do it with the Color Control node by setting External Image to Allowed and loading a image. This does not work with filters that already have colors connected as you don't see the option though, it seems to re-name them Color 2.009 here so i guess it now counts the old ones as discontinued nodes.
The fact the regular Image node shows no multiple image options is a bit confusing though, i think it would be good to add something similar to that also. The Manual preview seems nowhere though, unless i am missing something it seems not to have made it to V3 for some reason. ![]() --- Also not sure if this counts as a bug/point but a suggestion would be to add a "Clear List" option to the Recent Images list. A option to not use it would be good for the main options also if for some reason you don't want it to keep the history saved. |

For the Color Control node in the lower left of the dialog is a link "Help: Color Picker" but if you click it this page in the help doc is either missing or broken as it shows a "This program cannot display the webpage" error.
Most nodes and dialogs seem to have these pages working though, others that i notice are missing the value remapper info, Greyscale Control and some of the pattern nodes. I guess this is not really a bug but most things are documented already so it would be good to have these also. |

I can't modify my above post for some reason but i just noticed the main Help > About text also says 2006-2010 which should be changed to 2011 also.

I was thinking this could reason as i guess some things might change with later releases, thanks for the info. --- If you click the "Show Original" tick box above the preview image and then go in to the "Filter Editor" and then click "Cancel" to exit it again then it will un-tick that setting and re-render the image. If you don't save any changes then a re-render is probably not needed. |

Ok sure, i thought that was a bug but i guess it can also be seen as a GUI suggestion so if i find more things like that i will post in that forum instead from now on.

here's a tiny bug, almost just cosmetic, but a bit annoying:
when you're using the bomber in the editor, you cant mouseover the various sliders and then use the scroll wheel to move the sliders like you can with other component sliders. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

New Bug.
Nearly complete loss of filters. I installed with the option to transfer all of my filters. Everything worked fine. I added the license key. Everything worked fine. I attempted to install a new filter this morning with 3.0 open. I finally canceled the "getting list of filters" after 5 minutes. I tried one more time, then closed the program. When I reopened it I am left with Favorites, Search and My Filters. There are some random filters in My Filters but not very many. |

I installed the beta on my work computer, just to test it out. I selected the option to import the 2.0 filters (since I only had a couple), but they didn't show up when I started 3.0. I have the 2.0 trial on this computer, if that makes a difference (still 9 days left). The filters I downloaded from the library were, "Well, That's Just Crate" and "Simple Stone" (I was just showing a coworker how I made those filters). I didn't have any custom filters made. I'll try making a couple in the 2.0 trial and reinstalling the 3.0 trial to see if they come over.
Edit: I also had Hard Shadows. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 3.0 beta, but it didn't give me the import option. |

I have found more bugs -
First is a fairly big bug in my opinion, if you use Gaussian blur after a Color node with a imported image it will create a transparent edge/frame. You can see this well if you zoom in on the preview and this happens even if the imported image is seamless. If you enable the Seamless Tiling override option that does not fix it either so this definitely seems like a bug, i hope it can be fixed as i use the blur node a lot. ----- There is also a visual glitch if you have loaded custom images and you are on the main preview page editing the filter settings. When you move the Variation slider across the images will flicker. |

I think this is a bug.
I used two perlin noise operators, with images, as the inputs, and added them to a three colour Gradient (rotated to 90 degrees) one image at either end of the gradient, with a white colour in the middle. I got a large vertical magenta strip on the right hand side. |

Well I can send you one of the filter [ in development ] that triggers the response ......... so I thought I'd just tidy it up a little before sending it to you, attempt to save filter resulted in this message followed by an error report that was submitted through the bug report.
Thanks jitspoe, I've left the default setting of 60% ram |

I found a fairly big bug with Lua based filters, for example if you try this filter from the forum called Pipes C1.ffxml -
http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...8&TID=8010 It does not correctly display the preset previews. While the first preview is visible for the second image the preview seems like a solid black color but when you actually view/render it you can see the lines are actually much thicker than the first image. The same is true for other Lua code based filters such as Tech Noise Scrippet - http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...&PAGEN_1=2 The first preview clearly shows the largest square with a bevel that fades to the center but when you view/render it the bevel is only for the edge part. So this definitely seems like there is bugs correctly displaying the previews from Lua coded filters. |

I've looked into the filters. The main problem of the scripts is using pixel values of OUTPUT_WIDTH, OUTPUT_HEIGHT and SIZE in the filter. While some FF native components use output and filter sizes for some purposes (for example, noises for correct seamless tiling,) they DON'T use pixel values, only relative ones. On the screenshot below you can see a tiny script which makes different results for the main and the component previews. The explanation is simple: we have different pixel sizes of the previews while they are used in the script formula for pixel values. We've got 600x600 main preview and, according to the script formula, 600/200 = 3.0 value in pixel channels. But the component preview has 96x96 pixel size, so that the pixel channel values there will be 96 / 200 = 0.48 which is much darker than for the main preview. The solution is to use relative output width and height, i.e. OUTPUT_WIDTH / SIZE, OUTPUT_HEIGHT / SIZE. ![]() |

I can't seem to locate any filter with that name that contains lua scripts? |

Yeah your right Sphinx, i had noticed the Tech Noise Scrippet with the preview error then loaded the Pipes C1 and that had it also. Double checking even though it has the same type of display error the Pipes C1 uses regular nodes but it was posted in the scripting forum, sorry for the confusion.
This seems to actually be a general preview problem with regular node filters and textures as well as Lua based also. |

New Bugs/GUI Errors -
If you enable External Images for a Color Control in the Frame Editor i noticed if you edit the name it will make the main preview, the smaller preview under it and the actual Color Control nodes previews glitch every letter/character you type in. This seems to be a bug since the name should have nothing to do with the result. ---- Another bug is if you use a built in preview image then click the smaller preview on the Color Control nodes options and bring up the Image Placement dialog if you then quickly toggle the Show Original tick box you will see it glitch. It will have scroll bars appearing quickly. For both the ticked and un-ticked states even though the size will change no scroll bars will show however unless you use the mouse wheel to scroll in a bit, i am fairly sure this is some sort of graphical glitch. ---- If you go into the Filter Editor and simply select a node but not move or change it then press cancel to exit the editor it asks you if you want to save changes. No changes would have been made however, i guess highlighting a node makes FF think somethings been re-positioned. ---- I noticed if there are some imported images missing it will show a error about this but there is not much information about the original path/folder locations which would make it much simpler to fix the problem if a folder has moved. ---- I am not sure if this is some feature or a shortcut error but if you click in the main preview and then press the Enter key it opens a save image dialog. The save options shortcut is listed as Ctrl+S in the menu though but i am guessing this could be some slightly quicker way to do it? |

So far i have noticed -
No content Wrong thickness for polygons/lines/gaps Incorrect placement/offset Incorrect bevel and gradients Then rotation and other things also as it seems like a general preview bug. Hopefully this will be fixed soon with a new beta because otherwise you have to render things full size to see the actual results. |

Some new bugs/Lua scripting problems -
Some of the Lua maths functions like sinh and cosh don't have the color highlighting in the script editor. They seem work without giving a debug error though so this seems like some things are just missing. --- If you have a locked preview and a Lua Script node where you have a slider input setup like - a = get_slider_input(A_MOD) Even if it's currently doing nothing and not connected anywhere in the actual code when you move the slider to adjust it's value it will re-draw the preview. --- Another problem with Lua scripting is if you have a long script and have the scrollbar scrolled down a bit in the scripting editor, if you then click another node it will reset the scrollbar position when you go back. It would be nice if it would keep the last used position for the editor session, when you are testing code results then going back to edit again it can be slightly annoying having to scroll back to a certain line each time. |

Sorry about that, i was thinking that could be maybe considered a GUI problem so i put it here by mistake. I have made a new thread here with some requests - http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...9&TID=8433 --- I just noticed the Lua debug errors seem to give the general problem but not always the best report it could which i guess you could say is a bug. What i found was if you have this code for example - r1,g1,b1,a1 = get_sample_map(x,y,FOREGROUND) return r, g, b, a It will say unexpected nil returned from the blue channel, i would have expected it to say red instead because that is the first color channel on the return so it would be the first found error also. |

I noticed FF can load PNG images that have been saved in RGB, greyscale and Indexed mode. With Indexed colors mode however i found if you reduce the palette to be Web-optimized (i did this with gimp image editor) then FF cannot load them.
Since FF loads PNG images i am guessing this would be a bug as i would have expected it to be able to load images in this mode also but it does not seem to be able to. |

The new Beta Stage 2 is really great. I have been testing and found a few bugs and glitches -
With the new Before/After thing if you change the Preview Size option between Actual and Reduced modes then the current position is lost. So for example if you move the position to the center after switching to Reduced it's more on the right side and if you then switch back to Actual again it's still to the right side. -- On the main filter/texture Settings if you drag either the 'Size, pixels' or 'Variation' sliders both the Image Loader and Curve Profile previews will flicker. -- With the Curve Editor if you drag a point the 'Point Type' drop down flickers. -- With the Curve Editor if you are zoomed into the view and you drag the scrollbars past the dialogs area they jump back to the original location. So for example if it's on the left and you drag to the right once you go past the area it goes back to the left side rather than remaining on the right. -- With the Curve Editor you can drag the handle out of the visible editing area. If this happens you have to enter values to get it back however if you de-select you cannot do this and it remains out of the selection range. With points it seems it is restricted to the area but not for handles though. |

I recently downloaded some filters which say they are by voldemort (on FF site) but in the list (in FF V3 beta 2) it displays the author as root instead.
I thought this was worth reporting because if anyone wants to give a author credit for using filters it makes things confusing if it's not showing the correct information. |

A known issue, Image loader flickering has already been reported.
This is the standard scrollbar behavior in Windows. Try it in any other application.
You can simply zoom out to thee the entire handle?
Please provide the filter IDs so that we can check it out. |
|||||||||

Yeah, I think i reported it before once but for another dialog and i noticed it happening with the new control also so i figured i should report just in case. ![]()
Well if you zoom out it can be lost but i doubt this would happen much as there is a lot of room. Maybe you could simply make a right click option to reset the handles, this would fix that and is also quite useful. You could delete a point and add it again i guess but that is not as nice a solution in my opinion.
Sure, here is some of them - http://www.filterforge.com/filters/9788.html http://www.filterforge.com/filters/9767.html http://www.filterforge.com/filters/9757.html I have filters which show correctly as by 'voldemort' also in my list but the recent filters show as 'root' though. |

This looks like a combination of a user error and a library server issue. If a filter author doesn't specify their author name in the Filter info dialog explicitly FF takes their system logon name instead. I guess voldemort's username is 'root'. This discrepancy in the display names doesn't affect correct filter usage tracking. We'll fix the discrepancy some day. |
