After installing FF3 (Installer build 3.1.20499.16210) I can not get the application to launch. If I double click the shortcut for the stand alone nothing happens. If I try the Paint Shop X plugin I get "Plugin passed bad parameters [OK]" No process ever shows up in Process explorer.

My FF version 2 launches and works fine.

nerd, did you choose the option to transfer all settings when you started your install? have you tried re-installing?
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

No, I didn't transfer settings. I wanted a clean slate to test on. But I've since tried reinstalling that way and it made mo difference. I just plain ole won't launch.

Don' know if this will help you out but this is what I did that worked for my computer.....When installing Version 1and2 the shortcut that is installed points to Filter Forge.exe.....When version3 is installed it also points to the same thing but in the 3 folder of course...Verion 1and2 works great but for some reason version3 kept failing to open and I would get the ole MS error dialog.....So when going to C:\Program Files\Filter Forge 3\Bin
you will also find Filter Forge x86.......This is the one that worked for me...So I just changed the shortcut to point to that instead.....Now FF opens like it should and everything is good......
I am running an AMD Xp chip on my test machine.........

Unfortunately that didn't get it either. Tried Running it directly too. The shortcut on my install is correct. It has the right path and working directory.

As a wild guess I've tried eliminating a lot of background processes and so far have had no luck. Here's the list of things that aren't conflicting ...

Logitch Webcam monitor
Magic ISO Virtual DVD Drive
Olympus Device monitor
ImageMixer (Canon Monitor)
3DCOnnexion Manager
Backup Maker Pro

And at this point I'm running out of things I can turn off.

It just dawned on me I'm running a Dual monitor setup. Anybody else running dual displays on Nvida?

How long have you left it before giving up on programme launch? The first time I started it when the try or buy options comes up, it just hung so I kept ending the process, but after a few attempts I just left it and eventually, the programme did start.

Though I have noticed it DOES take longer to start up than previous versions

No new process ever shows up to be ended ... smile:cry: I've had Process Explorer open while launching FF3. The new process lives for about 1/2 a second before it goes poof. It's a very unstable isotope.

Nerd3D,
1. Please make sure you don't have ZoneAlarm or Spyware PC Doctor running - they are known to halt Filter Forge completely.
2. Please navigate to Program Files\Filter Forge 3\Bin\ and run "Filter Forge x86.exe".

My firewall / AV is Comodo Premium. I tried disabling it any way. Directly ran Filter Forge x86.exe. Sorry no love smile:(

I'm afraid I've found a show stopper. smile:cry:

Nerd3D, please reboot into Safe mode and try to start Filter Forge. If it starts correctly, this means some resident software prevents it from running in Normal mode.

OK Add Comodo Intenet Security to the list of AV suites that FF is incompatible with. Umm this list is getting lengthy have you given any thought to playing nice with the AV programs?

FF is SERIOUSLY allergic to Comodo. Simply disabling it is not sufficient. You have to totally uninstall it. Really, we need to get along with the neighbors.

You can add Filter Forge to the exclusion list rather than uninstalling Comodo:

1. Go to the Defense+ tab.
2. Select "Defense+ Settings".
3. Select the "Execution Control Settings" tab.
3. Click the "Exclusions" button
4. Navigate to the "Filter Forge 3" folder on the left-hand window and move the "Bin"
folder to the exclusion panel on the right
5. Apply the changes.

Tried that before uninstalling Comodo, sorry it didn't work. I also added it to tha AV exclusions and the trusted Apps. FF3 and Comodo are mutually incompatible.

I did it smile:)
if you are using comodo;
add

C:\Program Files (x86)\Filter Forge 3\Bin\*

in the defense settings, exclusions!
you have to add * at the end if not it's not working!
to be sure you can also add

C:\Program Files (x86)\Filter Forge 3\Bin\Filter Forge.exe

to the list.
