I downloaded and installed the Stage 2 beta. When I run it, the interface never appears, and the process just keeps running in the task list.. I did not uninstall the Stage 1 beta first as the installer didn't say it was necessary..

Uninstalling and reinstalling stage 2 beta did not help. The interface still don't show up. I never had problems with starting up filter forge before.

sphinx,
how long did you wait on that startup? i ask because i had a similar thing and just had to be patient. it took quite a few minutes that first time and when it finally started i got one error message about my 'Favorites' folder, which was completely missing in FF2 after the update, but everything seems to work fine now. FF starts up in the normal way now. so apparently there is some initial cacheing or something that goes on during that first startup. also, while you were waiting, did you try a control-alt-delete to see what processes, applications and services were running and was FF listed in there? and no, you dont have to uninstall or do anything with version 1. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

The process is running and I was talking about stage 1 beta, not FF1.. let it run for 15 mins, still the same.. it runs in background, never make it to task bar

After two hours of background processing, the filter forge process disappears (stops), without any crash messages or interface showing up..

if you still have the original download you might check it for file size. even a slightly corrupt download can wreak havoc. the stage 1 release was 35,610 KB on my machine. not sure what the stage 2 release size was; i cant seem to find the original download right now, but it will be at least that large.

Tried that too, same problem, I don't think there is anything wrong with the download.
I noticed that while the process runs, my internet gets really slow and Chrome can almost not load new pages (really slow). The moment I shut down the FF process in task manager, everything works as usual. Edit: it seem to be a CPU usage block, not bandwidth usage. I even tried closing down everything else, virus scanner etc, still no good... sigh! |

Hey Sphinx,
Sorry to hear that you have had problems! I wrote F/F before I went into the Beta 2 update, because they gave NO instructions & I wanted to make sure I did it right. This was the reply I received: "You don't have to uninstall the 2.001 beta -- just install 2.002 over it. You won't need a new key -- v2.002 will recognize the 2.001 beta key as valid and will re-use it. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Best regards, Victoria Kostyukova Filter Forge Support" You could try writeing Support & ask for help, I am not a computer Tec., I have learned alot, but.. Good Luck! Hope you get it worked out soon. Have a GREAT day! ![]() Ron zazzle.com/Ronspassionfordesign*

Sphinx., please let me know how many filters (*.ffxml files) you have in "%AppData%\Filter Forge 2" (on PC) or "Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2" (on Mac) -- and what OS version you're using.
Also you can try the following to launch FF 2.0: backup and delete (or just rename) the Filter Forge 2 folder, and then launch FF. You won't see your filters nor library filters you have downloaded from the library, but FF should start. Later you can move the *.ffxml files to the Filter Forge 2 folder manually from the backup folder. |

Hey Alexey
No luck with that either, it still keeps running as background process and disappears from the task list after a while. OS: XP SP3 HW: AMD Athlon XP 3000, 1 gig ram, ATI Radeon All in One GFX The first FF2 Beta ran just fine - did the requirements change btwn stage 1 and stage 2 somehow? |

Try to run command-line render. Does it work properly?
Space... it seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you. |

So just to confirm this is not working for a few but most see the GUI just fine?
I have tried on vista and XP and both the same thing, downloaded 2x and tried and both times the same thing happens, it starts to run but never shows. Im hoping that this will get fixed as the new features look great and i was looking forward to trying them but still cannot. ![]() |

James:
1. Does this happen in the stand-alone or plugin mode? 2. Do you have ZoneAlarm or Spyware PC Doctor running? |

I have got it running now, you were not clear before that you mean the app data folder, because following the steps with the program folder it still does not work but i figured this out later after posting.
Now however i can run the program and it seems nice but i have lost my whole library, transfering over the files does nothing and they don't show up only the default filters. I can load them but then it shows them as my filters even if i did not make them which is really annoying as it's totally un-organized and i have to do it one by one. Sadly im not even joking when i say this is the most annoying update i have ever done for a software and it seems like i will have to download the library again. ![]() Edit - No i don't use either of those softwares but i have various other anti-virus apps like mcafee though. A virus would not be the reason though as all other apps work fine and mcafee etc says the computer is ok. |

Please post the full path to your %APPDATA% folder.
For XP it usually looks like "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data" Space... it seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you. |

It is -
C:\Documents and Settings\james\Application Data I have tried the programs folder and also app data but both don't work and nothing shows. Also i double clicked a filter and it said it needed to update my library structure and to connect, so im doing that now as i type but it's been downloading for ages and also i notice it is uploading also. I notice it does that when i used to use the built in library before also and was going to ask why it uploads once before but forgot. Why does it do this? Edit - It just tells me it's not listed and did not work, great so what was i actually uploading and downloading for about 10 mins? It was to the FF server also according to my dl monitor yet i don't get what it was doing or why it even needs to update the structure if i have the latest version. Ps - FF should just use the filters from organized My Documents folders like loads of other apps do, it would make things much simpler. |

Ok the problem is sorted, i would have sorted it out sooner if it was made clear you need to un-install rather than just install over the last.
I now have it working with all the old filters. I simply fixed things by making a backup of the filters and cache in Application Data then un-installing, cleaning the registry and then doing a fresh install. It loaded ok and then i copied the stuff over and although it took ages it managed to load after a few mins wait and i now have everything. So hardly a smooth update process but it's working at least, i just hope im not going to have to keep doing this with new betas. ![]() Im guessing FF is trustworthy but im still wondering about the whole upload thing with the built in filter downloader. I always set stat reporting to off so it shouldn't even need to do any uploads imo but it alwasy seems to need to and the one it just did was for ages and then it did nothing after. |

Just been trying the new beta 2 features and they are great, thanks for the help everyone and sorry for the slightly upset/frustrated replys before. For a moment i thought i had lost a lot of library/work but it's all good now and things seem fine so far.

![]() ![]() wait half an hour for the first load of beta 2.002 standalone in the background. Once it's already there (patience, it will), close it. If neccessary, synctonize the two folders "...\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge\" and "...\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 2\" using beyond compare 3 or a similar tool. Then overwrite theese two files CachedInfos.xml LibraryStructure.xml in ... \AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 2\ with the original ones from ... \AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge\ Start the beta again and your library will be back again. ![]() ![]() ![]() Further loads of FF2 standalone or FF2 plugin will be as usual. ![]() ![]() BTW: on your HD the complete library exists twice, for v.1 and v.2 in separate folders. For me this is > 1,7 GB x 2. Donnow yet what happens with downloaded, cached, moved filters by v.2 for the database of your registered v.1. Might be recommended to set a symlink to one library folder instead of keeping the library twice and inconsistant in different places. Greetz + have fun Plotz |

I solved this problem by backing up My Filters folder and remove everything FF related on disk and in registry. Dunno what exactly caused the error.
