Anti Virus programs must be used with much care.
I explain you in very simple words what they do.
Norton, Kasperski, McAfee, or any other anti virus program are not really able to understand if a program is a virus or not.
They only go by patterns.
The patterns are three :
1. Stopping well known viruses.
It works on a database of previously stopped viruses.
You may guess by yourself that the database mainly contains old data, because the viruses always change.
2. Stopping programs that, for some reason, may work like a virus.
For example, it will detect as a virus most of the keygen programs or patches/cracks, because they force a program not to refuse a fake serial code. But... a patch/crack/keygen is not a virus.
3. Stopping programs that, from internet statistics, are used by few people.
This is probably what happened with Filter Forge.
The program is rather new. It has less customers than programs like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc etc. , so Norton decided that ....it could be a virus.
I suggest you always keep an eye on what Norton does.
Never let that it automatically deletes anything, otherwise you may get big troubles. It may delete part of programs for no reason, letting them malfunctioning and sometimes making them very hard to uninstall.
Filter Forge is safe. Don't worry.
