I opened a filter in version 5 to test out the randomization locks I didn't open it in the Filter editor. Now not only will the filter not show up in FF4 at all if I browse to the filter and double click it with FF4 running it won't open it. If neither version is running it will open in beta 5 so once the beta version no longer functions neither will my filter.
I know I can download another copy as I have this one in the library but for filters I havent uploaded to the library it's either purchase the upgrade or lose the filters. Not Nice and Not a good way to encourage beta testing. |

Happened before..
![]() ![]() https://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?TID=12807 I just did another experiment and what seems to happen is when you first install the beta it asked if you want to import filters...If you choose to import filters fr om version4 it will import the filters....What happens is after FF5 opens the default folder is changed to the FF4 folder....So anything you do in FF4 will open in FF4.... But once you edit a filter in FF5 or even open FF5 filters in the FF4 My Filters folder will then turn into a FF5 filter and no longer open in FF4 thus disappearing fr om the FF4 list thou it is still in the FF4 My Filters folder... For GMM and Tester.. ![]() To set up FF5 uninstall FF5 completely including all user folders...Then install the beta and choose to import FF4 filters.....After its finished open FF5 if it has not opened and choose a FF4 filter that imported to edit....Make a change to the filter such as add a component etc... Then save the filter and close....Close FF5 then open FF4....That filter should now be gone as others as well...At this point any filter that you put into the FF4 My Filters folder will be hijacked by FF5 once FF5 opens.....There is no need for editing the filters they just automatically turn into FF5 filters... Now close FF4 and go back to FF5 and locate the folder for the My Filters...It should point to the default folder which turns out to be the FF4 folder fr om wh ere filters were imported..... This only works on a fresh clean install of the beta as far as I have tested...... One other thing to note...Is that not all filters that get imported into FF5 will disappear from FF4 until you actually highlight or use that filter in FF5....At some point of testing I did not even need to edit a filter at first open.... I have tried this same experiment several times with installing FF5...Every time works the same and adds FF4 as the FF5 default.... I am on Win7 64bit.. You are correct CFandM. I did import filters when I installed FF5. The import function seems to be where this high jacking takes place. angelize if you do what CFandM recommends in the other post it will work around the problem until the techs can get it fixed. ![]() |

FF5-specific features like advanced randomization settings are saved in the filter's properties and cannot be used by an older FF version.
Please keep a different set of filters for FF4 and FF5. We'll make some interface changes so that incompatible filters are shown as incompatible and don't disappear out of a sudden. |

Well it seems that the other problem is when installing FF5 and importing FF4 filters..During this step the FF4 "My Filters" folder becomes the "My Filters" folder for FF5......Thus that "My Filters" folder points to FF4 not FF5...

We'll add a dialog box that will warn you about possible consequences and let you choose between importing only library filters and library+custom filters.
