steps to reproduce:
1 create 'bomber component' and connect 'image component' as one of the particles.
2 click on bomber and group it. Group without warnings appears.
3 go into the group and go out and omg group now has warnings.
4 click to locate button leads to crash with the exception

note: If you save filter with this bomber group and load it 'locate warnings' does not lead to crash. Group should be fresh for a proper crash )))

I have seen that this is still not solved as I have tested it and is true

If you include particle adapter inside the group when you try to change any of the settings the software will automatically close.

Here below is a filter to test it for anyone else that may want to test it, as the FF developers already have found it

Particle Adaptor Warning inside group CRASH.ffxml

SpaceRay, your filter doesn't crash for me. Have you updated to 4.005? What particular setting do I need to change to crash it?

Yes, I have upgrade to the latest 4.005.29433.37714 August 22 2013

After trying again where is the crash, I forgot to put something very important, I mean that as you say right the filter does NOT crash when used outside of the filter editor, BUT it does crash when you use the filter INSIDE the filter editor, so Ias said, I forgot to say that it was inside the filter editor.

1 - Open the above filter inside filter editor
2 - Go to the the result component
3 - Click on "Filter Controls"
4 - When you try to change any of the settings FF closes and will give this error message

Code
<class XFW::Kernel::SystemException> Access violation at address 008AF829 (read at address 00000004).

ALso I do not know why the warning is there, and as I understand it, it does not have have any sense, because the message is telling that I MUST use the color controls WITH the particle adaptor, and this is exactly wjhat I am doing, USING the particle adaptor, and this is why it gives me the warning, or perhaps I ma understanding wrongly the warning message

Guess I will bite on this one since I like things that break.. smile;) smile:) ...
SR seems that if you use the latest bomber in 4.005 you can construct it like this to get rid of that warning.....

As far as your crash I do get a crash but a totally different box then what you are posting......Heres how I always try to write a way to reproduce something....That way it takes the guess-work out of it for the FF crew.. smile;) smile:)

HOW TO REPRODUCE...Select to edit the filter and while in the filter editor select the "Results" component....Now go to the "Filter Controls" so you can see the control tabs on the left....Choose "Settings" tab then choose to load a "Built-In" image for "Particle 5"....I used the lifesaver.....You should expect a crash at this point with the following message....

Heres the bug in a more simple filter....It looks as if you can choose to "Allow Images" outside the group but once inside the group to fix the warning there is no-where to "allow images" inside that group even with a particle adapter....
I submitted a report as well...

Simply Crash.ffxml

OH! I could not believe your screenshot because IF I tried to make the same as you connecting directly the color control and do not use the particle adaptors, it would be exactly the same warning message, telling me to use particle adaptor as shown here

BUT then after I have read again your text (although wrongly because I did not see the "bomber" word) and thought that the NEW FF 4.05 could have new controls that could work, so I decided to replace all the color controls for new ones, AND SOLVED, after replacing all the color controls there is no warning even if I continue using the old bomber as can be seen here

Then later I have seen that what you have shown is really replacing the bomber for the new one inside FF4.05 but this did not work if you still use the old color controls, so really the problem is NOT on the bomber component, is on the color controls, that I remember that they have been changed in FF 4.0 to be compatible with the groups

IMPORTANT NOTE

From the 3 above ones, my second screenshot is WRONG because this are NEW color controls, so it means that you MUST activate the "allow images", that I did not do in the example, so is really useless, because after activating the allow images the warning comes back again

Also is wrong that in the bomber is not the problem and only in the color controls, considering the second example, as this is not true.

Sorry for the confusion and I did not thought when making the second example that the problem ONLY is when you activate the "allow images" in the color control

So here I have made it right and made the example using NEW color controls and OLD bomber, and the error I get is even more mysterious, because it tells me that the color control are NOT connected from outside of the group when really THERE ARE already connected color controls although the error may come from that they are old color controls outside so this maybe is the problem, that of course both color controls must be new ones, the ones inside the group and the ones outside the group

When going outside of the group above to be able to change the outside color controls for new ones I discovered something weird, THERE ARE 10 PARTICLE connectors even when there are ONLY 5 color controls inside and have deleted the old 5 other color controls.

Are the connections from the old color controls STILL there even after I have deleted them?

So this is why that they are not recognising the color controls controls outside because is TRUE that they are not connected as there is now 5 new particle connectors

I know that as CFandM have already said, this can be done simpler with just ONE color control and does not need really to have 5 to test it, but I wanted to do it this way

Using OLD color controls outside and NEW color controls inside works right and does not give any problem, I mean that the unconnected error is solved and the result is shown right, the warningd still remain

New test, I went to the original old filter, and then:

1 - Replaced the old controls from outside for new ones BEFORE entering inside the group, and activated on all of them "allow images"

2 - I go inside the group and delete all the contents inside and then replace all the components for exactly the same ones, BUT with new FF 4.05 versions and connected the color controls without particle adaptor, and again I ger the same unnconected color control error message as before, and also the same warnings message

3 - Going out of the group I see that this time there are ONLY 5 connectors and not 10 as before, BUT all the new color controls that I had connected before entering the group now are unnconected outside, it may be because I deleted all inside the group and then replaced all for new components.

Even after using all new components and making all right inside and outside of the group the crash still remains and happens in the same way I have put before, or better said, in the same way as CFandM have already described

Have tested with and without new component of particle adaptor too and always have the crash when trying to change any of the color control settings inside the filter editor

SpaceRay, I'd recommend you put off your test on this matter until the minor update to be released next week.
