Bug: Mac ver. of FF 6.005 crashes on any Creative filters.

I have discovered a truly exotic kind of bug affecting FF 6.005 (not FF 5 versions) run on Macs (same problems on a 17” 2011 Macbook Pro, a 2013 Mac Pro, and a fully-loaded 2016 15” Macbook Pro) . It is exotic because it seems to affect only Library Creative folder filters.

1. On my new 2016 Macbook Pro I had around 530 filters in my Library Creative folder. Scrolling down to the end caused a reproducible crash (all reports sent to Apple), so I tried deleting filters at the top of the category--didn’t help. Eventually I deleted the entire Creative folder, and re-created it by downloading some new Creative filters from the 6.0 FF Librarian. But using this newly-created Creative folder, with just a few filters in it, also causes crashes in the 6.005 app.

Currently I have to quickly delete that newly-created Creative folder, before the prog. has time to open it. Then I can use the prog on other, non-Creative filters without crashes.

2. I thought I had a clever work-around by using FF version 5 to download (using the ver 5 Librarian) misc Creative filters, then copying them to a Dropbox folder. Since ver. 6 can read ver. 5 filters, I then tried to access the same Dropbox folder from ver 6. But even placing the cursor on this new ‘Creative 5’ folder link in ver 6 causes an instant crash. But again, it’s only Creative filters that cause the crash--e.g., I tried a similar setup with ver 5 Distortions filters, and FF ver 6 doesn’t crash when linked to a ver 5 dropbox folder of Distortions filters.

So currently I’m completely shut out of using any Creative filters (whether ver 5 or 6) with ver 6.005 of FF.

3. What baffles me is why others haven’t reported similar Mac problems--e.g., there must be thousands using the new FF 6 program to read their previous ver 5 Creative filters. --What’s going on, since all 3 of my Macs have the same issues, even after fresh installs of FF ver 6??

4. Also, does anyone working for FF ever see the detailed crash reports sent to Apple? I’ll be happy to supply more copies if that would help.

Any suggestions for fixes are very welcome!

Problems apparently now solved--see below.

Fortunately I also submitted my bug report directly to FF Support
(support@filterforge.com) who suggested sending them my Creative 5 dropbox folder that also caused a crash in FF ver 6. They were able to identify one ver 5 filter--Light Burst--that caused the problem. Once removed, my ver 5 workaround works fine.

This made me think that perhaps the ver 6 version of that same Light Burst filter might be the cause of my main problem. (It was one of those I downloaded immediately before the crashes started to occur). My own testing seems to confirm this. So perhaps all of my problems were entirely due to this one LB filter, in both its ver 5 and 6 versions, rather than to
Creative filters in general!

That LB filter is fine in FF ver 5, so that’s why perhaps no-one else has reported similar probs with it in ver 6 yet (early days).

But, even with the LB filter purged from my system, if I type just ‘light’ into the ‘search filters’ entry window, FF 6 still crashes.
(Is there some kind of system memory of previous used filters?)

Thanks to the FF support team for their quick action in identifying the problem filter, and it’s very good to have my shiny new FF ver 6 operational again!
