I purchased and installed FF4 about a month ago on my Mac Pro running OS 10.9.2; I ran the software a couple of times but didn't have time to get deep into things.

Now I've got time to experiment and I can't get the software to run as a PS plug-in or stand alone app. It freezes during startup every time. I've uninstalled, downloaded the latest installers and re-installed several times but nothing works.

The only message that I get after being forced to resort to Force-quiting Filter Forge is: "Could not complete the Filter Forge 4 command because of a problem with the filter module interface."

Any ideas?

I deleted the files located here:

Users/username/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4

and re-installed.

Got me back and working again.

Glad to know the problem has been fixed. Removing the /Application Support/Filter Forge 4/ folder is the correct way to deal with such issues.

Since my FF4 quit working in CS5 several months ago and I can't get help at FF Support, I searched my Library/Application Support for the FF4 folder in order to remove it. I do not have a FF4 folder in that location. ?????

Hi Willow,

On Macs there are at least two locations for the Library folder. The first is at the root level of the hard drive and is clearly visible. There's also a separate Library folder for each user account. These folders are invisible so you'll have to do a little bit of work to find them.

From the Finder, go to the "Go" menu and select "Go to folder". Then type "/Volumes/(name of your hard drive)/Users/(your user name)/Library/Application Support".

You should find the Filter Forge folder there.

Good Luck!

I've tried everything. EVERYTHING. I finally took Filter Forge to the trash heap. I then downloaded it again from this website and reinstalled. Again....."PROGRAM ERROR". So I removed it to the trash again. FF4 wouldn't work and even FF3 stopped rendering. I am out a significant amount of money for a product that won't work and was unusable. I have gotten no response from Support. I feel cheated really.

Hi Willow,

I feel your pain. I was in a similar situation (FF wouldn't run, lack of support response) but trashing the preference files did the trick for me and it's been running fine ever since. Were you able to locate and trash those preference files?

Hi Bart....I searched the volumes as you suggested and it didn't find the files. As an alternative, I did a search of my mac in Bridge using the keyword search "Filter Forge". I deleted every file it brought up. I then reinstalled FF4 and still nothing. And other ideas? I'm pretty frustrated at this point. I appreciate you sticking with this with me. smile:)

I don't think that a Mac system search will find the files as they're inside an invisible folder. I'd recommend running a command to make your invisible files visible. Check this article: http://osxdaily.com/2009/02/25/show-h...s-in-os-x/

Once you've done that you should be able to find the files that need to be deleted.

I can see "grayed out" files I couldn't see before, but I am not seeing anything labeled FF or Filter Forge. Do you have an idea what I should be looking for, Bart?

Ok, well, here's what's weird. There is no Filter Forge 4 located there on my computer.

There are at least two "Application Support" folders on your Mac. Make sure you are looking in the correct location.

The first is located here:
(hard drive name)/Library/Application Support

The other located here:
(hard drive name)/Users/(your user name)/Library/Application Support

Check both locations. The "Filter Forge 4" should be in the second location. Delete the whole folder and re-install.

I have a similar problem, but a different error message (see below). I tried the trial version for two weeks and was very impressed with results. I purchased version 4.102 and installed it. Have only ever run it stand-alone. It ran successfully on my mac for about 2 days and then suddenly, after booting and trying to run FF standalone as usual, FF started loading and then I got this:

[I]<XFW::CarbonCallError> SendEventToEventTarget(event class '(kEventClassAppleEvent, kEventAppleEvent)'). failed with os status errAEPrivilegeError / telBadHandErr(-10004): / bad handle specified .

I have completely cleared BOTH Root/.../Application Support/ff AND ~users.../Application Support/ff and cleared all FF files from my mac before re-installing. Same result as above. All other software that I use is still, as far as I have tested, working perfectly.

ANTart, do you have Simbl (EeasySimbl) installed? It is known to block FF from running properly.
