I have added Filter Forge 4.0 and it will not finish rendering. It will show review and start to render but it will not ever finish.
What am I to do? It has not once rendered one picture.
Thanks

What resolution do you use?
What particular filter do you use?

I have the same issue. I started rendering an image yesterday and this morning it was only half way done, the same spot I last saw it at last night. My image is 300dpi. I was using Sketchy Painting.

Ok, "resolution" was not the best word.
What image size (in pixels) are you trying to render?

3400x3363....much smaller than some I have rendered in FF4 in the past.

That's a small image indeed. We've rendered a 7500x4000 Sketchy Painting today correctly. Do you use FF in the standalone or in the plugin mode?

Both....it works in neither. In Photoshop, it stopped opening Filter Forge all together saying "program error". So I tried using as a stand-alone and it will let me preview my image with various filters, but actually saving the image using one of the filters (no filter works....not just Sketchy Painting), it completes the render only to a certain point and then stalls out and hangs there.

I am using Mavericks on my Mac, but these problems did not start right after install. It's been about two months that I have had Mavericks and now have these issues.

I have the same problem, and not only with Sketchy Painting,.. but at least another two,.. "Mess Painter" and "Paint HDRtist".. I'm sure I would find more but too frustrating to keep working of other plugins ..and finally realising that they won't render out.

Whats really annoying is I have seem in the comments page for "Paint HDRtist", (which is a fantastic plug in by the way), that people on the Mac have had this problem for at least a year! smile:evil: .... And no fix to this problem to this day. smile:!:

I'm more angry with myself for buying the last upgrade. I didn't realise this problem was a bug, I actually thought it was to do with my ram or computer, but i have upgraded ram and new computer and same problem,...and it was confirmed when i read other peoples comments.

If your on a Mac... best advice I could give you is don't buy FilterForge or upgrade until they fix this problem, because they don't seem to be too worried about putting time to fixing it,...and it really isn't worth using Filter Forge unless this gets fixed... It's a pity because Filter Forge is great..... if it worked. smile:cry:

I noticed that the new version 5 is coming out. And we can pay for a pre release purchase which will be more affordable.

There is a beta version out to give you a chance to try be fore you buy.

So I downloaded the beta version, to try out some of the filters to see if this problem has been finally addressed after so many upgrades.

Looks like your restricted to only the small amount of filters that come with the beta download. None of the ones I would like to test out are there.

I wonder why only the fastest running plugins are included,..and why we are restricted to not being able to download others to try?...The beta would still only run 30 days?...why add a restriction like that?

I hope this isn't how FF addresses the feed back I and others have been giving by trying to sweep it under the table?

Honestly,...thats distasteful, ... just ignore the problem, and focus on just "stooging" some new buyers into handing over there money.

If anyone has another perspective on this , and thinks I'm being too harsh, love to hear it, because this is a new low for FF. smile:?:

You can get a beta key by contacting support.

You can get a beta key by filling in this form. Please also note you can still load .ffxml files into the beta -- the only thing that is missing is the server support for FF5.

Server support, ... meaning you can't download, other filters, other than the ones that have come with the Beta?.. Why is that?

This didn't happen on previous versions of beta software?

Is it to purposely limit the experience perspective buyers will have, to only those few filters? (which happen to work fine).

What about the other filters that render out really slow on the mac?(slow to the point of not even rendering at all and freezing.)

There is no reason why you would limit server support?..It's a Beta... so it will still only have limited time on it's use (30 or 60 days to whatever).

Surely for a beta to be "beta tested", you would want to explore the software as much as possible?.... Running only those few filters that it comes with in the beta version,... is not even tipping the ice berg in exploration.

So,... why limit people to only those few plugins?

sorry I just read your response.....Properly.... ".ffxml files",... does this mean you can import the filters I have already downloaded from my previous version of FF4, into FF5?

First thing I tried was to manually import the filters, but here is no Folder called Filter Forge 5 to copy the filters I have from previous versions.

There is only

/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/

and ,..

/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4/

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

My mistake,..I did manage to find the folder,...I did all the manual copy pasting,... but still won't load into FF5 Beta.

I have emailed tech support,... but found that usually here you get much faster response... if there is any ideas what i'm doing wrong much appreciate some feedback.

Excuse my ignorance. It's the busiest time of the year for me now,..and I'm just trying to sneak in some time to trial the Beta, and see if I can finally use it... and this has made me a little sloppy in reading your feed back properly.

Because the beta download was working straight after the installation,..(I thought it registered my current licence key somehow), so I didn't think I needed any additional "beta key".

So when you guys mentioned it as I was skimming through the feed back here,.. I dissreguarded what you where saying,.. thinking that maybe you didn't realise I was a current holder of a licence.

I sent for the beta key now,... so I will wait for it too get back to me...

It's been years now,..so really...can't wait to see if this will finally work. Crossing fingers.

The server FF version doesn't appear instantly out of nowhere, it needs to be developed as well.

but still won't load into FF5 Beta.

Please note you need to copy two files and one folder:

Library\
Library.xml
LibraryStructure.xml

from
/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4/System
to
/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 5/System

I have tried both trials for 4 and 5 to get paint HDRTIST, watercolor render to work. After several hours , I decided to research and discovered this forum. I have a MAC OSX 10.6.8 /266GHZ/ Quad core, Intel Xeon. My Photoshop, CS6 states that there is a problem with the filter node interface. The Paint HDRtist is the perfect plug in for my style of work. However, I see comments going back a year and the issue still appears not been resolved. I didn't have any problems downloading other filters from
the library, they seem to work. I have had to force quit both my Photoshop and FF when trying to render with HDRtist.

Will this be resolved? Before I invest in full version, I want to be sure the plug ins I select will work.

Thanks,
Gloretta

I've had this same issue in front of support for 2 weeks now. They've duplicated the problem and haven't heard from them since.

This is turning out to be a big waste of my hard earned dollars. I really regret buying this program. And there's no 'warranty' or refunds. I've only had the program for a month. Is this how FF does business?

Rule of buying ANY software: use the trial extensively before you buy it. FF lets you go for 30 days, lets you render output as well.

I'm not affiliated with FF. Just a user.

Depending on the filter, the rendering time may be long or short. This is not exactly a problem of the program, but just of some filter.

Some suggestions to speed the rendering up :

1. Don't keep any browser open when using FF.
Programs like Firefox or Google Chrome steal a lot of memory, slowing the rendering down.

2. If possible, instead to use FF as plugin of Photoshop, use it as stand alone program.
