You need to change permissions for the Filter Forge folder. The support team will reply to you by email.

My students have had various problems in Photoshop using Lion. None were Filter Forge related, but resetting Photoshop to default settings seemed to fix most of their issues. Don't know if this will solve anything with Filter Forge, but might be worth a shot. I'm still using 10.6.8, so I've not had these problems, myself.
To reset Adobe Photoshop back to the default settings:
1. Make sure Photoshop is closed.
2. PC users: Hold down the Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys.
 Mac users: Hold down the Cmd + Option + Shift keys.
3. Open Photoshop while the keys are still held down.
4. A message will appear asking if you want to delete the settings file. Click Yes.
-Good Luck and let me know if this helps at all.

Perry3D, thanks for your input but the issue is related to the Filter Forge installer, not Photoshop. We hope to fix it in the next program update.

Dolphin D: you need to change the access rights for the Filter Forge folder. Please follow these steps:
1. Click the Filter Forge folder in Applications.
2. Select 'Get Info' -- a pane will open.
3. If your user name is there in the user list, set the permissions to 'Read and write'. If your user name isn't listed click the '+' button and add the user to the list, then set the permissions to 'Read and write'. You might need to click the small lock icon at the bottom of the pane and enter an admin password to unlock the permissions box.
4. After you finish setting the permissions, don't forget to click the lock icon again -- to 'lock' the choice.

I have changed the access rights to all three FF folders, Filter Forge 3, Filter Forge Freepack 1 - Metals, and Filter Forge Freepack 2 - Photo Effects. However I am still getting this error message in Terminal:
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS5...
Adobe Photoshop CS5 found at /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/.
ln: /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Plug-Ins/Filters/FilterForge.Freepack1plugin/: Operation not permitted
Failed to install Filter Forge plugin for Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Whenever I choose any of the FF filters listed in PS CS 5 Extended, Photoshop crashes!
Now what????

Craig Lewis, unfortunately Freepacks were created prior to the release of CS5. We'll need to rebuild them and add support for newer hosts. For now, please do the following:
- make sure that Filter Forge or Photoshop is not running;
- copy the entire 'Filter Forge Freepack 1 - Metals' folder from Applications to Applications/Photoshop/Plugins/Filters;
- delete the filterforge-ppc.plugin file if you've got an Intel-based Mac.

I'm in the same boat. Ran the "InstallPlugins" for FilterForge 3 and got the following result:
/Applications/Filter\ Forge\ 3/InstallPlugins ; exit;
[My-Local-Merlin-2:~] jfk% /Applications/Filter\ Forge\ 3/InstallPlugins ; exit;
Folder permissions changed successfuly.
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS2...
Adobe Photoshop CS2 is not found.
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS3...
Adobe Photoshop CS3 is not found.
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS4...
Adobe Photoshop CS4 is not found.
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS5...
Adobe Photoshop CS5 is not found.
I have CS5.5 and Photoshop. Nothing installed.
I then manually dragged the Filter Forge 3 universal x86.plugin into the Photoshop filters folder, but when I then try to use it in Photoshop, the app crashes.
I sent a note to customer support. I hope this can get resolved soon as I'm pretty much dead-in-water as far as using this product as a plugin which is my expectation/goal.

I've followed GMM's reply above. However, mostly I just launch FF and work there separately from any version of PS. We can all anxiously await new versions of the Freepacks, although I'm disappointed that they're not here yet.
Also, PS CS 6 will almost certainly be released this year, probably sooner than later. I hope that FF and the Freepacks won't have trouble with that when it's released.

Dolphin D, the problem has nothing to do with Mac OS. Until the good people get around to making FF compatible with Photoshop CS 5, we simply cannot run FF or the Freepacks fr om PS CS 5! I'm very disappointed that it's taken them this long to make the revision. After all, PS CS 5 has been out for nearly two years and PS CS 6 is expected sometime this year.
The only solution at this time is to run FF as a separate application. When you're ready to do something with an image using FF or a Freepack and the image is open in PS CS 5, either close the file or quit PS. Then launch FF or a Freepack and do what's needed. Then save the file, quit FF and return to PS.
That will have to suffice until we get new versions fr om FF. Don't let these problems get you down because you made the right decision to use a Mac, wh ere there are many advantages in addition to FF.

So they aren't fixing the 3.0 Plugin. I wouldn't have upgraded if I'd known. I can't even go back to 2.0. This sucks.

I would encourage the fine folks at FF to please contact me via email. I sent several support emails and while I appreciate a response on this forum, the lack of movement/response from them has not been a favorable experience as a new customer.

I think that the only thing the installer does as far as installing the plug-in part is look at what app you have ie PS etc....Then install the plug-in to the appropriate folders...So just copying them over is the manual way....There are other plugins that exsist that have to be installed this way.... Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

Originally I did drag the plugin over but it didn't work. For whatever reason, copying over the whole folder worked.

Okay, I copied over the folder and removed the PPC file. No problems there. Seems to be fine.
I then open a new document, go to FilterForge and it launches app. I select a texture and hit apply, and it applies it to the blank document I had opened just previously.
All good.
But now Photoshop CS5.1 (Mac) is slow as molasses when I try to do anything. For about 30 seconds, a lot of menus were blank, so I couldn't select File...Save or File...Quit even. I'm on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo mac mini. Am I going to be having issues with performance with my Mac by applying this to a small document? Is there a setting in PShop to perhaps make it perform better (memory mgmt) because I don't know why it got crippled after such a basic experiment.
Thanks for any advise one can provide. I know Illustrator has a mode where one doesn't have to display detailed filters, but I don't know if PShop has the same option.

I started this discussion back in November . I am disappointed that there has been no resolution of the problem in all this time. I have moved on to using Topaz. It works wonderfully well. Good luck to the rest of you. rdp

I am not going to "muck about" with something that is not the positive resolution. A new Mac is not going to be a Guinea Pig. I did buy the update Filter Forge 3 to use on this machine. Filter Forge 2, which is a purchased copy, works fine with Photoshop on my Laptop running Windows.
A resolution is needed please. "The hurrier I am the behinder I get!"

This won't sound good, but I'll say it anyway. I enjoyed working overseas in Germany for several summers with Adobe Systems as a product manager. I've also supported another software company based out of Germany. I find the level of support provided by this company far below expectations. Not only have they failed to deliver basic fixes, but they provide a communications vehicle on their web site yet they NEVER RESPONDED back by email.
This is very bad customer service. If I were over there, I'd be getting their customer service dept. in shape because bad word-of-mouth and not having repeat customers is going to hurt in the end.
For whatever reason, I did not see such complaints on the forum before buying...so I missed some of the negative criticism.
I'd like to see this company learn how to properly manage customer service and resolve long-standing issues with their software, because it's a shame they don't seem to understand how to properly support their paying customers.
Last post on this matter.

Hello. I'm not a Mac owner, and so I'm just guessing here.
If you don't want to risk your Mac as a guinea pig by copying the entire folder over, why not point Photoshop at the folder instead of copying it. In Photoshop preferences, you can add a second place for it to look for plugins.
Alternately, Photoshop knows how to follow shortcuts to find plugins. So you could also try putting a shortcut to Filter Forge's program folder in Photoshop's plugin folder.
Both of these are low impact non-destructive changes that can easily be undone. I'd try each and see what works.
If you have already tried all this, please ignore. I couldn't read the entire thread to see if this was covered.

I purchased FF 3 yesterday... before reading about the Photoshop plug-in problem. I, too, experienced the failed plug-in installer issue:
Searching for Adobe Photoshop CS5...
Adobe Photoshop CS5 is not found.
As suggested by GMM, I tried copying the entire Filter Forge 3 folder to the Photoshop CS5.1/Plug-ins/Filters folder, then deleting the ppc plug-in. Photoshop opens OK but always crashes when attempting to apply a filter.
Also tried Andrew B's suggestion and specified an additional plug-ins folder (instead of copying FF3 folder structure), leaving FF3 in place under Applications. Same result: Photoshop crashes.
Using FF3 as a stand-alone application isn't what I expected and isn't a viable solution. I need it to work in Photoshop--as advertised.
Current environment: OS X 10.6.8 running on Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro, Photoshop CS 5.1
Any other suggestions?
