Today I upgraded to 2.0 Standard . . . paid my $50 and my first download worked fine. Now I can't open Filter Forge at all. I keep getting the message "Filter Forge Quit Unexpectedly" and a report to Apple button with all kinds of lines of code. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. It's frustrating to say the least. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

The old standby helped me out after upgrading last week - remove all your FF and re-download!

Do you use Filter Forge as a plugin or in the standalone mode?

I'm not sure what you mean, GMM. I have a little button on my dashboard and open up filter forge that way. I haven't figured out yet how to plug the filters into my photoshop elements.
Thanks LakeEffects and GMM for your responses. |

Please try on another filter, for example this one:
http://filterforge.com/filters/243.html Open this link and click the 'Open in Filter Forge' button. Will it open? |

Hi, GMM,
The plot thickens. When I do that, I get this message. Filter Forge Is Not Installed To open filters, you need to download Filter Forge and install it on your computer. If you do have Filter Forge installed but still see this page, make sure that cookies are enabled in your web browser and click here. Maybe I should dump my just installed FF and redownload it. |

It is possible that you've downloaded a filter that causes Filter Forge to quit.
Please go to Users > Your_User_Name > Library > Application Support > Filter Forge 2 > System and rename the Library folder to something different (say, Library1). After that try to start Filter Forge again. |

Hi, GMM.
Well, I got busy and just now got back to filter forge because I need a texture for something I'm working on. I followed your directions and renamed the Library folder in Filter Forge 2 "Library1" and it still crashes immediately after I open it. Pretty frustrating. Any other ideas? And thanks for your help. Cacie, what finally worked for me to was to strip every bit of FF off my computer and start over. I had to do this 2 or 3 times, but it finally did work. That library name change didn't do anything for me either.
Good luck! DebraS |

Thanks, Debra.
I'll try that. This is really frustrating. I have to be sure I have my code for FF . . . and does that mean the files already downloaded, some of which I use? Thanks for your help. Cacie |

FF might remember your license code; it did for me. All the filters already downloaded were lost however. It took me a while to re-download them. You might want to make sure it works before you do re-do too many.
Or maybe there's a way to save them separately on your hard drive; I didn't try that because I was just desperate! DebraS |

Hi LakeEffects:
You can find the filter forge filters on your C Drive in the Directory called Roaming. This is if you are using Vista. The Directory in Roaming is called Filter Forge 2. I copy this Directory from time to time onto another drive for backup. All the filters are in this Directory. mrwolfie |

Thanks, Paul, but I'm on a Mac. I haven't been able to figure out yet where the filters are hiding!

'~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2' or '~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge' is where FF hides on the mac, rather good spot I must say.

Thanks, Totte! I didn't realize they went by numerical names. Now I see that if I go thru Locate via Filter Forge, it does take me to the file.

Yeah, it is very confusing that everything for FF2 is called 'Filter Forge 2' except the app itself.

I sure hope the advice above is good. I trashed all of my FilterForge files and am now waiting to hear back from them as to the license key I need to redownload. Does anyone know why there are such problems with this software. I love it, but it's been a headache since day 1. How is their customer service?

The problem seems to strike some people, I've never had any problems at all, but I don't use it as a plugin to PS (don't have PS). It also seems to be a problem if you have installed free filters before installing the real deal. And their customer support, it has been great for the things I've needed help with, but sometimes it seems that Victoria is a little too busy.

I did install the free one but that was ages ago. I just upgraded to 2.0. Hopefully it can be straightened out. I appreciate your response. Cacie |

Well, I finally got around to reinstalling FF 2.0 thanks to directions from Victoria, and the same thing happens. FF quit unexpectedly. I am pretty fed up with this since the earlier version didn't gave me no problems at all.

mine is not a mac problem, but pc:
i've submitted a report about it several times, but got no answer. FF 2 pro unexpectedly quits with error code 0x00000005 after either trying to open or trying to save a file. it happens often enough, so that i can never be sure, whether saving will work or not. ![]() any of you experienced anything similar? do you have a solution for it? thank you for your help! ![]() *** here is my report: Operating system: Windows XP (5.1 build 2600) Service Pack 3 Physical memory: 3070 MB Number of processors: 2, available: 2 Processor info: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz, ~2995 MHz Filter Forge x86-SSE2 2.009.19400.34466 Release-SSE2, January 14, 2011 07:43 [19.03.2011 11:29:36 Westeuropäische Normalzeit] Exception caught at thread 000004B8 'Application': <class XFW::OSCallError> ::CreateFileW(scratch file 'C:\DOKUME~1\det\LOKALE~1\Temp\Filter Forge Bitmap Cache 4268 028B6400.tmp') failed with error code 0x00000005: Zugriff verweigert. <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 0081AA68 in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 00818AC0 in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 005BBA7A in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 005A176E in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 006B4C4E in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 0081DEDE in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : EnableMenuItem()+40 at 7E37D2EC in C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 00829B43 in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 00561DDB in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : GetDC()+109 at 7E368734 in C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll <unknown file>(0) : <unknown function>()+0 at 00829B43 in Filter Forge x86-SSE2.exe <unknown file>(0) : GetDC()+355 at 7E36882A in C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll CONTEXT_CONTROL: CS:EIP 001B:7C812AFB, SS:ESP 0023:0013EBC8, EBP 0013EC1C, FLAGS 00200206 CONTEXT_INTEGER: EAX 0013EBCC, EBX 00000000, ECX 00000000, EDX 00000000, ESI 0013EC5C, EDI 0013EC5C CONTEXT_SEGMENTS: DS 0023, ES 0023, FS 003B, GS 0000 Let the children play. :-) |

Not being a Windows person, but a programmer, and Google translate the errorcode "Zugriff verweigert" -> "Access denied", this tells you pretty clearly that FilterForge is denied to write the file "Filter Forge Bitmap Cache 4268 028B6400.tmp" In the directory "C:\DOKUME~1\det\LOKALE~1\Temp\". How to solve that is another issue (something with your settings on Windows, not my cup of tea, sorry) / Totte - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

thank you for answering, Totte!
![]() the thing is, this only happens occasionally, but relatively often. the same file can work once and make FF 2 quit the next time. FF 1 worked without problems. Let the children play. :-) |

Ilmeni, I strongly discourage from discussing issues with the Windows version in the Mac-related thread. If you contact our support team or at least post in the appropriate forum you'll increase your chances to get a reply.
(But Totte must be right: you are low on disk space on C:) |

thank you, Totte!
![]() i switched temp folders to another disk, turned off NVIDIA tray programmes -- as there has been a 0x00000005 error with FF 1 back in 2006... in the end it seems the problem came from Kaspersky Internet Security. after stopping it from controlling FF2 altogether, it seems to work now... hopefully. GMM, you are right. thank you for replying! quite disappointed with support, though. i think i filed 5 or 6 reports over the last few months, the last two with requests to help me in this. it used to be very helpful before... pity! gave me the feeling "Filter Forge is too expensive for not working properly..." anyway. hope it works now. ![]() thank you all for your help!
