So I recently had to reinstall all of my software due to an OS problem. As I'm reinstalling my filters from the FF website I suddenly happen upon HAL9000 (which may be a coincidence lol) and the program crashes on me.

Internal Error
<XFW::Exception> Application encountered an unrecoverable critical error and will be terminated.

Now I can't even open it without having an issue.

Welcome to the forum and sorry that your first post has to be a problem with FF

Sorry to say it but, if you ONLY give the error information "<XFW::Exception> Application encountered an unrecoverable critical error and will be terminated." and do not give any information of anything else, how could FF support help you?

You do not say wich filter forge (FF) version are you using, and wich version of Mac OS are you using, and have not said what have have you been doing when this happened.

And would have good and more helpful also to post the first part of the bug report and not just only the screenshot of the error.

So it means that you are having always the same error every time you try to start FF?

My opinion is that you try to uninstall it and reinstall it again, and see if this could be solved or not.

Fair enough.

It was a dark and stormy night...LOL sorry bit of levity.

Actually it was a rather peaceful night and kind of dry for this time of year. Regardless I was installing filters fr om the website. I'm using Filter Forge 3 and the filter I was in the process of downloading was HAL9000.

There was no previous part of the error the program froze and showed me that error. When I pressed the Generate Bug Report, I got this next bit:

Support suggested I remove the Library folder but that didn't help me either. So I tried reinstalling the entire program and still get the same error. Even after a new installation. I think there is another bit to delete that I'm not seeing.

Am I missing anything? OH! I'm running on MAC OSX 10.9 Maverick. I'm working on a Macbook Pro fully loaded.

Cheers mates!

PS. Yes everytime the program opens I get the exact same message as if I'm still trying to install the filter.

I'm 99% sure the issue is caused by a filter. Reinstalling Filter Forge without removing the offending filter from the filter storage will have no effect. If you think the filter is HAL 9000, please locate and remove Library_5979-2.ffxml; if you are not sure please remove all the *.ffxml files from the Library folder.

Could you outline where those all might be. I got the same recommendation from Support and deleted the "Library" folder located in "Applications/Filter Forge 3/Resources/System/Library" and when I restarted the program it was as if I had done nothing.

Next I completely uninstalled Filter Forge 3 and reinstalled it again. When I went to open the now reinstalled program it once again did precisely the same thing showing me ALL of the filters I had downloaded recently.

Is there an Application Library other than within the Applications Folder? Maybe a system Library?

No, this is the wrong Library folder: you need to navigate to
/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/System/Library and delete the .ffxml file.

Please note that Mac OS X 10.7 and newer default to hiding the /Users/Library directory. To make it visible, enter the following command in Terminal:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

That seems to have worked. Got no filters now but I'm okay with that. I'll try downloading some and seeing if it works.

Every filter corresponds to an .ffxml file in the Library folder. If you encounter a filter that generates errors you can only delete its .ffxml file, and Filter Forge will work properly.
