Hello,
How do I manually remove a corrupted filter fr om Filter Forge 3.014? The other day I downloaded a filter called "True Variable Blur". Either this filter is corrupted on your website, or else it became corrupted during the download process. As a result, when I have tried to use it on a graphic, Filter Forge throws an exception error that says "<XFW::Exception> Application encountered an unrecoverable critical error and will be terminated", and the progress bar just gets stuck in the Filter Forge window, so that I have to force quit the program. Either that, or the program will just crash. When I try to delete the filter using the "Delete" option under the "Filter" menu, Filter Forge goes into the unending beach ball, so I again have to force quit the program. I thought that perhaps I could fix the problem by downloading the same filter afresh, and just let it overwrite the corrupted version. However, when I try that, Filter Forge just crashes. Using my BBEdit text editor, I searched the files in the Application Support folder in order to determine wh ere the words "True Variable Blur" are found. There are five occurrences: ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/System/Cache/Library_9988-2.ffxml at line 897 ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/System/CachedInfos.xml at line 102 ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/System/Library/Library_9988-2.ffxml at line 897 ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3/System/Library/LibraryStructure.xml at lines 20495 and 20496 So what do I have to do to these four files and six lines in order to purge this filter out of the program? Thank you in advance. WordWeaver |

Well, I am hoping that I did it right. I just used logic, took a chance, and removed the .ffxml file from the two aforementioned locations, and I deleted the lines which referenced the aforementioned filter from the "CachedInfos.xml file and the LibraryStructure.xml file. Filter Forge is still working, so maybe I did it right.

A few of the script filters seem to do this on a mac also. I've noticed a few by Inujima have this issue too.
User/'user'/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 3 should contain the 'My Filters' folder where your edited versions reside, and two levels deeper in the System/Library/ directory is where the default and downloaded filters are. Just removing the offending ffxml filter from System/Library/ should be sufficient I believe, as the other xml files and cache file rebuild every time on launch. _____________________________________________________

Thanks for the confirmation fellows.
![]() So are you saying that the lines which reference the broken filter in the CachedInfos.xml and LibraryStructure.xml files will automatically be deleted by the program when it recognizes that the filter is no longer present in those two folders? I was concerned that if I left those lines in there, the program might expect to find the filter, and then crash when the filter was no longer found in those two places. Thanks. WordWeaver |
