FF3 Professional crashes all the time on PS6. No way to use it!
I have got to save the image then invoke the stand alone version which also crashes 50% of the time. What is going on? Do you want to easily reproduce the problem? Do this: 1) Open PS6; 2) Create a new blank canvas (does not matter dimensions, etc); 3) Invoke the FF3 filter; 4) There you go! 100% of the time it crashes! Now, what? Is FF4 working fine? Thanks. Mine does the same thing. I have to re-boot my Mac over and over. This computer never was the "crashing" kind before now. Sigh. That's why I'm reading the forums. I get the feeling that when I try to use FF through PS, the photoshop app is trying to load all the Filter Forge filters. Or something....

It's funny, Kath, because sometimes invoking FF directly from PS it crashes, sometimes running directly the executable it crashes too. But, as far as I could see, it only works either way, that is, whenever it runs inside, it does not run outside and vice-versa. Go figure!
I don't reboot my Mac but rather I close everything that I can close and most of the time it starts working again. Definitely, FF does not know how to proper manage the memory. I was hoping to test FF4 but so far I could not get a key (I have already used the 30-day trial period). However, the previous version of FF4 was not any better... What to do now, GMM? I have already bought the update to FF4 but I can't test it... Thanks. Bressan |

There are also some filters that run lua scripts which kinda crash the program and get a bit annoying on you. If that was invoked then it'll run into some bad cycle of epic irritation. I think FF4 actually fixed that problem. I don't speak on the behalf of FF but I doubt the problem has to do anything with memory management and if it does, well ok fine it does.
Lastly, fix your permissions if crashes occur frequently. In most cases it'll solve any annoyance. I don't know everything and I'm just a forum dweller, but I think most problems are solvable, just that they're difficult to get to sometimes. Do note that we all have different parameters for our macs (what you installed, what system preferences you got, what programs are running...) and that kinda leads to a bajillion possibilities where the problem rests. If crashes are persistent you may want to look through your log files, also check what programs are running at the time. Run diagnostics... If a problem can't be replicated, it's not the end of the road.  |

This sounds odd, but the problem doesn't happen if I "open" a file in Photoshop to play with, ONLY when I create a new file. It seems to be working now, tho very slow. I hope to get the knack of it one of these months. I just got Filter Forge yesterday, so its a little early for me to get agitated.

Does the standalone version least work in your favor? Sorry I keep editing my little notes: if in any case you run into further issues, you should probably check the console. Application > Utilities > Console just to kinda look for oddball error messages. You can always submit problems via contact.

You can request the beta key here. As for the crashes, unfortunately I cannot give any specific advice when we have no steps to reliably reproduce your issue. |

 I have discovered 2 things: so long as I do not create a "new file" in photoshop (I'm using CS4 and Elements11), but instead OPEN an existing file, there is no trouble applying Filter Forge!
AND. BUT- I also must move my Photoshop file over to the center of my computer screen. Otherwise it freezes in front of the Filter Forge page, and most of the time it can't be moved. A couple of times I was able to close FF and then PS worked OK. I suspect these are Photoshop bugs rather than FF. So far I am having a real BLAST with FF. KMWillow |

Indeed, FF is a real blast! There are some filters that are of no use at all while others are really good. I just got my FF4 licenses to play with and let's see how it goes. I am using PS6 and never noticed the behavior you mentioned. Perhaps, PS is to be blamed for. I will keep this space updated whenever I have something new. Thanks. Bressan |

Hi I have got the same problem.
FF standalone (latest version as of yesterday) runs fine. In CS5 FF crashes, no matter which file or size or type. Mac OS 10.6.8, Mac Book Pro 2011. |
