Hi,
Just purchased and installed FF on my Mac this evening running OS X 10.6.5. FF Crashes immediately on doubleclicking the standalone app with the following msg in a window: "<XFW::CarbonCallError> SendEventToEventTarget(event class '(kEventClassAppleEvent, kEventAppleEvent)'). failed with os status errAEPrivilegeError / telBadHandErr(-10004): / bad handle specified ." The window has a button "Generate Bug Report" but clicking it makes the whole window go away. Exact same behavior when opening FF from Photoshop CS4. I did completely remove and reinstall a couple of time, no effect - exact same behavior. Nothing seems to be getting logged to the Crash Logs or Console. Help! Thanks, -raaj [Mod update: People seem to find this page in Google, so TLDR: check if you have Simbl/EasySimbl installed. It is known to block Filter Forge from running properly. ] |

After doing yet another delete and install, with the same results - immediate crash on execution, I noticed that the "Filter Forge 2" directory in /Applications has permissions that look interesting:
_unknown: Read & Write wheel: Read only everyone: Read only. Is this correct? Also, in the "Filter Forge 2" directory, the executable Filter Forge.app has permission of: system: Read & Write admin: Read & Write everyone: Read only. I'm still dead in the water... Thanks for your help. Hopefully you guys have found the issue. |

Upgraded to 10.6.6 today. Exact same behavior - dies on invoking with the following message:
"<XFW::CarbonCallError> SendEventToEventTarget(event class '(kEventClassAppleEvent, kEventAppleEvent)'). failed with os status errAEPrivilegeError / telBadHandErr(-10004): / bad handle specified . " Any pointers? Thanks! |

Hi Victoria,
Per your instructions I changed the owner recursively (chown -R) for the FIlter Forge 2 directory in /Applications to me and made sure I had Read+Write privileges. I also verified that the /Users/My_User/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2 folder had access rights of Read + Write for my user. Exactly same error: "<XFW::CarbonCallError> SendEventToEventTarget(event class '(kEventClassAppleEvent, kEventAppleEvent)'). failed with os status errAEPrivilegeError / telBadHandErr(-10004): / bad handle specified ." Thanks for your help. Hopefully we can get this fixed - I'm still dead in the water! Cheers, -raaj |

Raaj and bleating: how many filters do you have in your Filter Forge?

GMM - this install was the first time install (after purchase) so I'm not sure how to answer your question. I guess the number of filters would be whatever the original install puts in there. Since FF has never worked for me, I haven't downloaded any additional filters.
I would really like you guys to fix this - it's not often that one purchases SW that simply does not work on your machine. Please fix! Thanks, -raaj |

BTW, Since FF crashes immediately upon starting, I'm not sure I could even be able to tell you how many filters I have, unless there's some place to go look in the Mac Filesystem.

Please try to remove or rename the ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2/ directory and run FF again.

Removal of that directory did not appear to do anything. Invoking FF caused a window with "Internal Error" on the Window title to appear with the follow message:
"<XFW::CarbonCallError> SendEventToEventTarget(event class '(kEventClassAppleEvent, kEventAppleEvent)'). failed with os status errAEPrivilegeError / telBadHandErr(-10004): / bad handle specified ." The window also has a button that says "Generate Bug Report" - clicking that makes the window go away and nothing else happens. In other words, exactly the same as before. |

Invoking FF from Photoshop CS4 results in a window that says - "Could not complete the Filter Forge 2 command because of a problem with the filter module interface" Then the window I documented earlier appears outside of PS. I've attached an image of the FF error window.
Does that help the debugging effort? ![]() |

Rhinoboy1972, please check if you have set full permissions for the Filter Forge folder. Or you can use Filter Forge as a standalone app.

I've been having this same issue for some time now with no help from app owners/developers.
Please advise how to resolve the crashing in OSX 10.6. This is a useless app if it won't run. Please do something!!! KISS |

They're never going to help you. I've been having the same problem with OS 10.7. It worked fine before I upgraded about a year ago. I've tried to get help via Support and have tried the various suggestions on the forums. Support is generally non-responsive. Nothing works. It just crashes. It won't work with Photoshop. It won't work as a standalone. It will open as a standalone, but I can't even download any filters at this point--it just tells me I don't have FF, even when I go via the "download filters" link in FF and I'm logged into the site. I have tried reinstalling, numerous times. Whether with Photoshop or as a standalone, the program is completely useless. You wasted your money. And now they have the gall to email trying to get us to upgrade to FF 4! It's a shame, because it worked well with OS 10.5, at least on my old system. I used to use Filter Forge constantly before I upgraded my Mac. I'm angry over all the futile time I've lost trying to get this to work.
(And, yes, I have full permissions set...etc.) |

TheAlikA, how many filters (approximately) do you have in the local filter storage? Dozens, hundreds or thousands?

Hey GMM I have only the original presets that came with FF.
I will be happy to trace down the error with you and find the root if you would like to try. www.thealika.com |

TheAlika, please try to remove the /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4/ folder, then redownload and reinstall FF 4.

I know such things are uncommon on Macs, but do you by chance have an antivirus or a debugger running?

ok I got it!
I opened "Activity Monitor" and shut down one service at a time.. the problem in my case is: SIMBL Agent... can be found here: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18351/simbl Seems to be fine after i quit it (I now Uninstalled it) I got SIMBL with an app called Side Effects http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/43078/sideeffects p.s. will this count as a bug for the Beta Test Program? I'm Looking forward to use and help out with your amazing software... these are the kind of effects I am planning to produce: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Picass...gh/4415311 All the Best.
