No, I'm not posting my setup or version or any of that. I think it's very clear by now you don't care and that it's a waste of time. The installer sucks and you won't fix it. I can't download filters without updating and you won't fix that either (or maybe you do it on purpose). I doubt I'm going to pay for version 3.5 or 4.0 or whatever the next big update will be. It's a shame, it's a nice piece of software. Too bad you don't care about user experience at all.

Yes being forced to update has always been a design flaw in how FF operates, and I don't like it either. I think though the way the library works though its probably not easy to make it user friendly. Over the years I just got used to FF being more "high maintenance" than regular apps. Luckily its awesomeness more than makes up for its hassle factor.

I don't think it's a design flaw, when the program is pirated it is only useable to get filters from the library till a new update, then it's blocked from the library. FF trying to minimalize the use of illegal copies smile;)

I can see it a "design flaw" when updates actually break on the next version on the same OS. And maybe that's frustrating? I donno. But it technically isn't.

The point of having the latest version is so everybody's on the same page. It's actually beneficial and easier to solve issues when everybody owns the same thing all together. I mean the point is you'll get the latest version of the software that may be crashing less and the devs won't have to worry about older versions.

There are software companies which would release updates on a scheduled basis where if you don't update the last version expires thereby forcing you to grab the latest version with proper fixes.

I can think of tons of other reasons too, but you know lets just keep it at that for the time being since angry ghostwheel would probably haunt us all.

Sorry, but WHY the installer sucks ? smile:?: Do you any problem with it ? smile:?:

For me it works very well and does not give any error, and when you install and update it works flawlessly and overwrites the new version over the old one keeping all the filters, presets and conffigurations and you have to do nothing else than click on the button to agree to update and it makes all for you.

So, please can you tell what is needed to be fixed ? smile:?: What is the problem with this? smile:?:

This is done on purpose is not something that is broken and needs to be fixed and and I do not think that is something bad or annoying at all, because when an update is released (that is not something often) you only need to agree to update in downloads the new version and installs it and then after a very short time you can download the filters you want.

As already said, one of the points of doing it this way is to force any possible pirated versions to stop downloading any new filter so is a way to stop piracy, and I agree with it and find it right and I do not have any problem with it, because if you have a legal key there is no problem with this.

So where is the problem ? smile:?:

Nobody will force you to upgrade from one version to a newer one, you will only need to update your own version, but you will not be able to download any of the 4.0 filters, so is up to you to decide.

Is this the ONLY reason that you will not update ? If yes, I am sorry but I can´t understand why ??? smile:?:

As Carl have written, I do not think is a design flaw at all, and I have no problem with this.

Why do you think is a design flaw ?

What is lame is the other day It made me update and it was soooooooooooooo slow downloading the new one. I gave up till next day.

Having to update is just a necessary annoyance when using an online library, obviously your version has to be able to handle any lil changes to the system, I don't think it's too often that you need to update, and usually it doesn't take long.
Release the Mongoose!

I did update to the latest version and it still complains about updating to the newest version. That is a flaw. Being cut off from the library unless I update or pay for an upgrade may not be a flaw but it's total BS.

Ghostwheel, I think actually do have an issue you may want to report.

Just on my words, I use FilterForge professionally. I want this program to work as much as you do and I want it to run smooth. I need to use this program because I have specialized tools I developed in this program. So if you have a problem that's consistant, I may have the same issues. Regardless of how small or large the problem describe it, report it. Getting irritated and writing angry forum threads over it is meaningless.

ghostwheel, Skybase is totally right and I agree with him, it´s pointless and meaningless to get irritated and angry that you have NOT explained what it is and what is happenning to you. Have you answered or read any of my question I have made above, NO.

If you have a real problem and this happens ONLY to you, there is a support team in FF Inc. to help you solve it when you them what happens.

I did update already 3 times (I think) since the release of FF 3.0 and never had any problem updating and every time was seamless and well and I could continue working without problem, so the problem is not that FF is faulty.

Ghostwheel, I agree with Skybase. Contact the customer support and describe your problem instead of ranting on the forum.

They did respond to my help request and they did resolve the problem. I basically deleted FF and reinstalled with the downloaded installer instead of the built-in update process. This time it installed cleanly and the PS plugin even worked without hassle.

Ok, so I was be obnoxious. I apologize.
