Helo guys, what is the best solve for using sky-filters e.g.

http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4213.html

and e.g.

http://www.filterforge.com/filters/7761.html

smile:?: the filters are make very nyce skys, but If I use this as an sky-object - hemisphere, so I have ugly "geometric distortions" smile:cry: but If I use the sky-filter based picture as planar, so I have multiple repetitions / multiple tiles (with the same object) ...

Ok, or I descriped it simply ... whats the best way, to use your/the great sky-clouds-renderings from filter forge (or from others/photos/) in 3D scenes?

Many thanks for your answers!
sorry for my bad english - I'm from Germany

Hi Zeropaint:

I use Vue or Bryce to make skyboxes or skydomes for 3d stuff. It gives one a more realistic look w/ clouds.

You could take the Horizon Clouds and sphereize it (pshop filter > polar coordinates) to use as a skydome. There are applications out there to convert images to skyboxes, also.

In other news, if you already have a 6 panel cubemap you can use my horizon filter to give it a nice color tint: http://www.filterforge.com/filters/7026.html

/shameless plug.

You could take a stab at filter editing and implement a sort of "multi-tile" that Totte uses often in his filters. This would let you use them in a planar sense and still have 4 different images. (Not sure what you could do about the very top though. That's ignoring the fact that there might be some distortion visible due to the weirdness of the skybox rendering method.

Haha, not a very helpful post, but hey good luck, do some research and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for smile:D

Turn down the cloud scales if you can and render huge. Then put it on a plane like you tried before and you should have clouds that go a good way off into the distance before they start to repeat.

Do a Polar coordinates spherical unwrap on the square texture and it should wrap to a sphere without distortion.

I think there's a filter in the library to do that.
