so, you wanted a home of your own, eh? nice
![]() that first one, with a little tweaking, could also pass as a 'foam' filter, which is actually a good idea. the 2nd and 3rd are harder to judge as there is no original for a reference point. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Yeah , I tried to get that look of concrete with wear and badly speckeld
I will work on making the image to give it a more painted look - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

on your first pic, were you going for a raised look on the concrete or a flatter, 'painted on' look? you said painted earlier, but i could also see a bit of a raised look and wondered.

I saw a painting on a concrete wall and first tried to mimic the concrete structure, which consist of three elements.
(1) Concrete rough structure (2) Marks from the rough speckle done by some construction worker to remove holes and gaps (3) Other irregularities Then I just added an image over it. Now, I'm working on making the image to get a "painted look", I got some ideas here to bleed colors and also spot a little with random color from the picture itself. - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

ah, ok. well, again, the first pic is the best of the three, but that could be from having the original reference picture of the life preserver. we all know what that looks like. #2 and #3, not so much, but that's a tricky one because you're adding an underlying texture to your photo. try messing around with elevation gradients (if you arent already) and try using thresholds as a blend component (carl does those really well). i've done similar effects to images but i'm not quite sure what i used. you can always make the filter a surface type and add the texture through the height control. that will tend to give it that 'underlying' effect. you might even try reversing it, using your texture as the surface and the image as the height, but i think that might screw it up. still, it might fool ya.

does it fade that much, as in the last one with the life preserver? mind you, i'm asking because i flat out dont know. i know there are many different kinds of paint. i could easily see some bleeding into the concrete like you've got it, but i would also think that some would be thicker and would blend/bleed in so much. is there an opacity slider to alter it for that?
and, btw, i do think your concrete is looking good ![]() it also occurs to me that you might could do something along the lines of simulating sidewalk chalk paintings. that would be cool ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I've made it so that you can set the blend mode this one is soft light, so you can get pretty different blends on top of the concrete, and you can also set the alpha of the image. he concrete came out really good, and this is still a FF1 filter, I got the random look pretty nice.
And the sidewalk, nice idea, I got another idea from that. This one is a little more "graffiti-style". ![]() - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

Was so inspired by Constantin Malkovs Viking Shields, so I had to make a kite shield filter.

totte,
how about just making the border size on the shield optional? and, now you've gone and stolen my idea (which i stole from you ![]() yes, move the swords/knives to FF2. you'll find it much easier to construct objects like that. The reason for a "static border" is that so many things are related to that, and we dont have any way to set some of those inputs from anything else than controls or static. For example offsets that needs to be different depending on border size (the bolts).
And yes, I'll think I'll move the swords and daggers over, but it was fun doing it in FF1, much of a challenge it was (Yodaspeak), and no, not working on a light-sabre, yet,,, - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

I like the shields, but there is an obvious jog where the top portion and the curved portion meet. If it helps this might help fix the shape a little bit.

Thx Craig,
I've uploaded the filter, will be visible on monday or so. I really like those, and as my first filter I made was a log wall, and my first filter to get a HU was that log wall, I though taking a log wall t the next level was kind a natural path to follow. - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

I wont be easy to reach for the next week or so, as some overambitious contract worker with an excavator succeeded on cutting a "war proof" 1500 pair phone cable in the area, that was inside a think reinforced concrete casing, clearly marked "cable", rendering my internet connection to my mail and webservers dead, along with another 1000 phones and network connections.
Got a temporary solution from my ISP with a wireless Internet-connection so I can get out on the net, but mail and web wont be online until earliest next friday afternoon, have already been cut off for over 48 hours. So, to cheer me up I've been playing with FF, finding that FF2 really brings new life to many old filters. ![]() - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

heh... when they put a new sewer line in down my road they must have cut phone and other lines like once every four hours. it was painful.
and yes, FF2 does put new life in older filters. that's exactly what i've been doing quite a bit of lately, also. looks good. it's got more of a 3d quality to it now ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

This one was rejected due with the following info:
"Unfortunately, we cannot accept the filter fur fever you have submitted to the Filter Library. It takes too long to render. Try to optimize it for speed and resubmit it." I hope the new bomber in beta 3 will fix that. ![]() - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |
