i'm definitely one of those that was hoping for flying cars i'm not a pilot. dont have a license, but have flown quite a bit, especially while in the military. i even got to fly a chopper once. that was pretty cool. and i've come this close .. to getting lessons, but never quite did. i was always intrigued by the california flying saucers, too and the ultra-lites. probably shld have tried hang-gliding, as well. always close to the air, but never quite going full-blown.

oh, and in case someone thinks i'm talking about ufo's when i say california flying saucers, i'm not. there was a company in CA. that made a flying car/saucer of sorts. it had 5 or 6 vertical take off fans set around in a circle on the disk and you sat in the middle. it was a kit you could buy. that was years ago, though, and havent seen anything out of them since the 70's, i think it was.

the parachute behind a boat thing? no. oddly, that one never really interested me. i guess it's because someone else is in control of the 'flight'. if i'm in the air, I want to fly! I want to be in control!

control freak? absolutely! at least in something like this. i ALWAYS want to drive if i'm in a car. and i'm MUCH more nervous if another pilot is doing the flying so, i never liked water skiing that much, but i like snow skiing. being towed by a boat = no control. going to your death down a steep hill with no skiing lessons, at least i've got a chance and am not dependent on anyone else to crash or survive i guess it's a matter of i trust myself, but not others, with my life. so, if that makes me a control freak, then amen, brother!

well, i'd rather hang-glide than bunji-jump. that, to me, is one of the ultimate insanities. let's see, you're perfectly safe up there on that 1000 foot tall bridge, but you want to tie a rubberband on your legs and jump off. ummm, ok, bring in the boys with white coats and put me away!

well, i can somewhat see jumping out of an airplane, even for sport, but jumping off a bridge with a rubberband tied to my legs....uhm, i pass

hehe, yeah, it would take something stronger than 'for the fun of it' to get me to do it, as well, but, at least there can be a purpose to it.
