I use these freebies that work great.....which you can get at Download.com.....

1) CCleaner.....cleans up all the unnecessary crap on your computer.....and does an excellent registry repair without going overboard and deleting needed entries.....

2) Easy Cleaner.....cleans all the junk, deletes duplicated files, and has many other good tools for optimizing your system.....

3) FreeRAM XP Pro.....does a great job of optimizing RAM for better performance.....

4) AusLogics Disk Defrag.....great disk defrag that does it in a fraction of the time taken by your system defragmenter......

Hi Steve
I was looking at programs like CCleaner, because I have so much old junk on this machine that it really would need cleaning, but I am always afraid I would delete teh wrong thing and break everything...got any tips on using this effectivly?

Hey Rawn.....

In the Cleaner.....just check everything in Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System.....don't check anything in Advanced (to be on the safe side).....and don't check anything in Applications (can remove other freebie apps that you may want). These settings will give you no problems at all.....

The Registry Cleaner is perfectly safe to use......just scan for issues.....create a backup......and then delete all the issues found. I really like this program because it is the only program that I've found that doesn't "overdo" registry cleaning and delete things that you need.....

Another good freebie program is "Auslogics Registry Defrag"....which is safe to use.....and does a good job of speeding things up on your system.......

hey Rawn, most good junk file cleaners give you the option to make a backup of the files it deletes. i know it sounds counterproductive, but you can just keep the backup for a week or two to make sure everything runs ok, or even throw it on a CD to save for a while.

that said, i'm no certain CCleaner has that option. I use the cleaner in Tuneup Utilities which is a really handy tool (but not freeware).

i also run the reg cleaner in Tuneup all the time, along with Registry Mechanic. never have any problems...

You could always try to manually install FF on wine...But there seems to be a whole lot of work involved to doing that..Let alone trying to find all the files needed to run FF.. smile:)
I tried a couple of times with no success... smile:cry:
Running it on Dreamlinux..

i HIGHLY recommend this one, WinPatrol! http://www.winpatrol.com/ . this one has saved me MANY hassles! it does a number of things, including the new keylogger detect, but it mainly detects when an install of another program or trojan or worm, etc., tries to put something into your startup routines. this one is a must have!

the only downside is that it detects ALL programs that try to put things in your startups and sometimes that's a small hassle. sometimes you do want to allow things into your startups, so having a window or multiple windows pop up while you're installing a new printer software or something like that can be a tiny hassle, but well worth saving your butt when something nasty tries to take over your machine!

also, there is a free version. here are the differences between the free ver and the plus/pro version: http://www.winpatrol.com/whyplus.html?index

----Now Carl, we kinda warned ya man. Maybe an FF team person ought to erase that link, it sounds like low level malware. Maybe that site is legit, but it's got something going on there right now that isn't good apparently. smile:eek:

Oh, well, you see, thats why I browse with Java and javascript turned off, I regard them as security bugs smile:) In the case, I hadn't even noticed. Suffice it to say, you can see those pages without Java active.

As far as I can tell, its the gadget right near the bottom that lets you distort a picture with a parametric surface generated by an equation.

I thought that I had bookmarked the site, but I didn't. Luckily I managed to find it again. It's a tiny little program, and you just use your keyboard to play the sounds - a time waster, but it has 128 instruments/sounds and some adjustments.
