well, i broke down and bought a new printer for my home. it's an HP Photosmart D7260. and so far, i'm impressed. the colors are amazing and the duplication of color from monitor to print is excellent. that's printing on glossy paper. but even printing on plain, white typing paper is pretty good. the box promised 'lab quality', which i always take with a BIG grain of salt. and the salesman told me this was the one he'd bought and that it beat their own $500 printers, or at least did as well. so far, i'm believing the salesman. the prints are stellar!
to make it even better, the printer uses a new ink. you know how those home printer cartridges cost like $24 to $35 or so? this one uses six cartridges and the total cost for all six is $35! combine that with the print quality and well, i'm willing to write up a glowing report here in the forums.
i havent tested this yet, but the salesman also said that one set of cartridges shld do 100 to 150 prints. i'm not sure if he meant 4 x 6 or 8 1/2 x 11.
there are a couple of drawbacks. it's not compatible with win98 and prior and the max print size is 8 1/2 x 11.
but, it has all the standard features of a new printer, card readers, usb thumbdrive reader, a decent sized lcd touch screen with a fairly extensive menu system. it will accept 8 1/2 by 11 papers down to 4 x 6. the installation was simple and bug free so far as i can tell and it came with a few extras HP tends to always throw in.
for $150 retail this is looking pretty damn good!
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
