i think i'm about to lose it. i've been in limbo for 4 months. not working because i'm waiting for my residency permit that will let me work. not studying because i submitted my dissertation and have been waiting for my defense. and not going out meeting people because a) i'm antisocial and b) i don't speak the local language very well. i just sit at home all day reading and forging filters and waiting for my wife to get home.
i just thought i'd take advantage of this new part of the forums to say that...

Hi garbanzo, haven't seen you for awhile. Hope you get your residency soon.
What is the local language and what is yours, if it's ok to ask?

sure it's OK. i'm american so native is english but i'm living in budapest so local is hungarian. i took classes last winter which helped a lot but i can't afford to continue so i'm making do. tough language to learn! i can get around OK, and i understand quite a lot, but i have a long way to go...

it's very nice here. much different from home, i grew up in a small town in the mountains with bears in my back yard, and now i'm living in a fairly big city. but i'm managing. wonderful culture.

I wondered the same thing and reread your first post several times trying to figure out where he got that from.
I tried living in a city when I was younger, but I just can't stand the crowded feeling. I grew up on military bases and that is as crowded as I could stand and since it was all military people I always felt safe unlike in a city.
I'm a wee bit antisocial myself.

i feel safer camping in the mountains around my home among the bears and mountain lions than i do walking in a city at night. but budapest does feel much safer than london where i lived for a couple years. that place was awful!

Are there gypsies there?
I live in Washington state and I am happiest the farther up in the mountains we go. For now we have to live in the valley while my husband works on his second pension, but once he has it we will be moving. Right now we are 5 miles from Tacoma...yuck. Seattle is about 30 miles north of us.
Do you do any other art programs?

i'm pretty proficient with photoshop, and i have some other programs i play around with, but not really... i actually don't think of my work in filter forge as art, for me it's like a wonderful puzzle, which makes something pretty if i put things together in the right order. never much fancied myself as artistic...
oh, and yes there are gypsies here. they have huge families and they hang out outside the market on saturdays selling junk.
