i know about the software Studio Artist 4.0, but do not have it myself, and it was released on 2012. There was some news that told that it could be released version 5.0 sometime in 2015, So I have been waiting to buy it until 5.0 was out to avoid the upgrade payment, but we are now in 2016 and it did not happen, so I have asked to them what was happening if there will really coming the 5.0 version and I got this interesting answer

It seems that the problem comes from Apple company and not from themselves, and I suposse that may do not want to release the Windows version unless they can also make the Mac version

Also this may possibly apply to Filter Forge and that the developers may have probably a similar problem, or maybe not depending on how FF is built and programmed

We are still developing and we are coming out with 5.0, we are just doing the last bits and it is being beta tested.

It is very hard these days to do quality software with the constant changing of the OS and the lack of support for independent developers and making backward compatibility available. This is especially true of Apple who are only interested (and only from the standpoint of how it benefits them) in iOS applications which cannot support complex software like Studio Artist.

A lot of our development challenges is not our software but constantly having to navigate all the changes and lack of support and documentation of those changes. Studio Artist would have been out a long time ago if Apple in particular was more supportive of independent developers but that is no longer their interest. So we have had to spend a lot of resources and time to deal with issues well out of our hands. With 4.0 we basically had to build the program back up from scratch because of Apple's decisions. And after 5.0 we will have to do that again and have already begun that process because it is going to be a long and arduous journey.

Being on this side of things and seeing what it takes I regard any independent software developers doing anything interesting and creative (and that includes all the starving iOS developers doing interesting software) as heroes because bottom line it is hard, really hard and it has to be a labor of love first. This is not a unicorn startup business model with gazillions of dollars thrown at it in the hopes that the investors will inflate the worth, go public and make a killing. On the contrary since there is an actual product and not a unicorn it is considered a deficit. Our focus has always been simple - make cool and interesting software because that makes us happy then support it and treat our customers with respect and gratitude for appreciating our efforts.

I didn't mean to go on but it is the most honest answer I could give to your questions. So don't give up on us 5.0 is coming out. Also, if you want Studio Artist sooner you can get 4.0 and you will get a free upgrade to 5.0 when it comes out.

As a user part of me argues that StudioArtist is kinda dated. It's still a 32bit application for firsts. Working with very large resolutions is actually difficult, it unfortunately makes the program quite vulnerable to crash. That doesn't stop me from using it. I of course just deal with it. I submit bug reports if I must.

As for SAv5 it seems like the development is going very well. It seems there are tons of new features to tinker with and some UI improvements overall. As for 64bit, there have been no promises yet, although I hear about a separate 64bit version with less features. But again, nothing specific.

My plan's to continue using Studioartist just as usual, will upgrade of course!
