I have seen threads in the past where users have reported seeing special offers for FF that others cannot see. Now I have experienced that myself! On my regular desktop computer (Windows 8 with IE 11) I only see the Special offer on subscription and FF Prof costs $399. I see the same on my old IPAD 2 that I often use to access the FF website.

On a brand new IPAD 2 I saw an 80% discount ($79 for FF Prof) yesterday or the day before, and today I see a 75% discount ($99 for FF Prof). These discounts were (are) prominently highlighted on the home page.

I am wondering if the FF website somehow displays different offerings depending on whether the website is accessed by a computer containing cookies indicating that the user is completely new to the site.

In any case, the offers seen seem to be valid, because if I click the BUY button, Digital River displays an invoice containing the special price.

I've never experienced anything like this on any other website.

Hummm... You are right. I went to the site from a computer that I have never used to go to FF page and it reports 80% discount on the Professional Version. It says "Last day of offer". Instead, going to the site from my usual PC, no matter if I login or not my account, I can't see this offer.

Well... I bought the program before, so it doesn't make any change for me.
It is probably 1 day offer for who goes to the site the first time.
Someway it is not so fair, I know, but it may be a selling strategy. A person who see FF page the first time gets a choice : trying the program and losing the offer or buying immediately without knowing if he likes it or not.
Anyway, now that you know it, you also got the trick : anybody can firstly try the program, then, if he wants to buy it, he can buy it using a different computer, hoping to find the 1 day offer.

There is also a chance that it is some kind of mistake reporting an old offer not deleted. Maybe, you would not succeed to purchase it through the 80% discount.

I've also never experienced anything like this on any other website. So if I recommend FF to someone I'll let them know to try different browsers, maybe clear cookies, try accessing with different devices and look for best deal.

So I checked the home page from my computer running Firefox on Windows Vista and there was no deal. I just checked the site on an iPod Touch for the first time and there it was...80% discount. Could be a sales strategy as was mentioned.

If the already observed behavior holds true, if you continue to access the site with the iPod over the next few days, you should first see the offer drop to 75% and then the normal page with no discount will finally appear.

If this is a sales strategy, I can't understand the logic behind it.

I checked again from the iPod and it did go down to 75%. So as weird as it is, the pattern seems consistent. If it's a deal for new visitors, Why not say so on the site that it's a deal for new visitors? It might be better for sales if people knew it was a special offer.

Unless they're worried someone would use a different computer then the one they usually use to get the deal. It's all very mysterious whatever the reason for these discounts.
